Juvenile Fe 8 A sweltering Pairc Ui Chaoimh greeted us on Saturday last as we com- peted in a hurling blitz. The conditions were very difficult given the heat but this did not deter our play- ers who put in a massive effort. All our players got to play three games on the 4G pitch and everyone of them played very well, but most importantly they en- joyed the experience.
Fe 10 The Fé10 boys made
the trip up to the city last Wednesday evening to play Douglas in the last round before the summer break of the Rebel Óg hurling league. A total of 29 boys made the trip and played across 3 teams. In ex- tremely hot conditions for a 7pm throw in, all teams played exceptionally well with some fine scoring, work rate and team play throughout. Well done to all involved and keep up the hurling practice at home or on holidays! Thanks to all the parents who were able to make the trip
it’s always very much
appreciated by the coaches and players.
Fe 12 On Thursday last we
travelled to Inniscarra for a Premier 1 Hurling league clash. Even at 7pm in the evening the heat was in- tense but nonetheless both teams served up a very en- tertaining game of hurling
played in a sporting man- ner. Inniscarra opened the scoring with a point from play, Darragh Egan and Eoghan Fraser
respond-
ed with a point each from play,
Inniscarra’s free tak-
er was then kept busy and slotted over three points before we had a brace of frees from Daniel Garde. The hosts added a further 3 points before the whistle to leave a score line of Inn- iscarra 0.07 to Midleton 0.04 in what was a very evenly contested first half. The second half began much as the first with Dan- iel Garde free narrowing the gap before they scored two from play, James Mc Sweeney added to our tal- ly with a point from play but shortly there after we conceded a soft goal, this rocked our confidence and with the sun blazing into the eyes of our defenders Inniscarra rattled in two more goals to leave chasing the game,
us despite
this set back we continued to hurl well , a James Mc Sweeney pointed free was
quickly followed by anoth- er from the hard work- ing Darragh Egan before Inniscarra added another point,
Eoghan added a
point from a 65 after some intense Midleton pressure, Daniel Garde got the fi- nal score of the game to leave the tally Inniscarra 3.10 to Midleton
0.10.
On the night we also had impressive performances from Cathraigh Cronin, Thomas Dunlea, Con- nor Williams and Adam O’Connor. Thanks again to parents and parents for travelling on a week night the lads can be very proud of their performances. On Saturday morning
we travelled to Rostellan for a hurling challenge match, this was a very worthwhile
outing some impressive with perfor-
mances from Matthew Gregory and Fionn Kelly in mid field. We started well rattling off some ex- cellent
scores form play
before Aghada responded with a goal. In defence Sennan Gleeson and John
Paul McManus had excellent
games while
Shane McNamara was the pick of our forwards. The second half was a more evenly contested game but despite the water breaks it was obvious that both teams were suffering in the heat. Callum O’Brien also got on a lot of ball, our U11 players Matthew Mc Sweeney, Mathew Her- bert, Cian Stack and Josh Foley acquitted themselves well. Thanks to those who on Saturday
travelled
morning for what was an early start.
Fe 14 Last Wednesday night
we played a home hurling league game against Ball- incollig.
Conditions were very
warm, and the pitch was very dry due to the fantas- tic weather we have had in recent weeks. Water breaks for the players was agreed with the referee prior to the match as conditions were so hot for both teams.
63 Notes We started this game
very brightly. Through- out the team every player worked hard to win their individual battles, winning the ball and moving the play up the pitch to cre- ate scoring opportunities. We had some fine points scored from Mikey Finn, TJ Murphy, Tiernan Ro- che and Dave Cremin. Towards the middle of the first half our opponents scored a goal from a pen- alty, but this did not deter the lads and the points kept coming from play and from frees. The halftime score was Midleton 0:11 to Ballincollig 1:06. The second half was
much the same story with points coming from Mikey Finn, David Greene, TJ Murphy and Tiernan Roche.
Our backline
held strong throughout the second half and they kept Ballincollig to a goal and two points, with their goal coming from a sec- ond penalty. We finished the half with two goals, the first one coming from
Mikey Finn following a fantastic run from Tiernan Roche who passed the ball to Mikey who was in space to finish to the back of the net. The second goal came from Dave Cremin, who had threatened a goal on a few occasions leading up to this. Full time score Midle- ton 2:16 Ballincollig 2:08. The entire panel for this
game gave their all and the players can be very proud of the commitment and performance that
they
put into this game. We are now finished the league programme, but we await further
results from oth-
er teams to find out if we progress to the League playoffs. Our next game is Satur- July when Midleton with
day 7th GAA host a Blitz,
New York, Knockavilla Kickhams, and Abbeyside visiting our club at 1pm. Our panel for the game
was, Mikey Finn, Tiernan Roche, Rian De Barra, Michael Roe, Odhran Prenter, Cathal Continued on next page
