Laser Offers Corroded Clamping Washer Removal Solution
To help with the often tricky task of
removing corroded clamping washers, Laser has introduced a useful clamping washer tool which has been specifically developed to make the removal and fit- ting of these washers easy and straight- forward.
Clamping Washers are used by many
manufacturers to hold in place under- body heat shields and sound deadening materials. They are light weight sprung steel washers that push on to and grip a simple, coarsely threaded stud that is perma- nently attached to the vehi- cle body. Unfortunately they can be tricky to remove once corroded without breaking them or bending the stud. This new tool, part num-
ber 7347, is designed for 32mm diameter washers. Two steel pins engage with the washer and allow a cord-
ZF Aftermarket’s Crick Gains ISO 14001 Certification
ZF Aftermarket announced that
has its
warehousing and of- fice facility at Crick in Northampton, UK has received certification for the latest environmental management
standard:
ISO14001:2015 – ahead of the September 2018 deadline. The company says using this standard will improve
resource
efficiency, reduce waste and drive down costs. In addition, the 96,000 sq ft site has been recertified for OHSAS18001:2007 Occupational Health
and
Safety stand- ard. This is all in line with ZF’s commit- ment to social, environmen- tal and eco- nomic sustain- ability. ISO 14001 the

environmental system. It
provides a framework that an organisation can fol- low, rather than establish- ing environmental perfor- mance requirements. The standard has been
updated (ISO 14001:15) to respond to the latest trends in environmental management
and in-
cludes additional require- ments for, identifying and understanding the context of the organisa- tion; leadership; strategic
environmental manage- ment, risk associated with threats and opportunities, life-cycle
thinking, value
chain controls and perfor- mance evaluation. Chris Cafferty, QHSE Manager, ZF Aftermarket said, “By implementing this standard at the facil- ity, we will improve effi- ciency, reduce waste and lower costs, all of which will help strengthen our commitment

less drill or any ¼” drive wrench to be used to spin the washer and allow it to wind its way off. This method of removal helps avoid breaking the clip, damaging the pin and also helps re- duce the chance of the operator cut- ting themselves on the sharp edged clips, particularly when they break. Applications
include: Audi, Seat,
Skoda and Volkswagen (OE washer numbers, N90335004, N90335006,
and N90796501) and Ford OE 6715468. This type of clamping wash- er is also found on many other vehicle marques. The tool is compatible with clamping washers from the Connect Workshop Consumables range: part numbers 36149, 36150 & 36571 (all for VAG). Keep Your Cool In The Workshop With Sealey High Velocity Fans
Sealey has introduced a
new Premier range of in- dustrial high velocity drum fans.
HVD24P, HVD30P & HVD36P are in 24”, 30” and 36” diameters and are high efficiency fans which have an improved motor and blade
design. They
provide a higher velocity, with up to 30% more area coverage and reach. The robust units
are constructed from a heavy-duty gauge steel
casing, guard and frame. They each feature an easy positioning handle, wheels and tilt function and cra- dle stand to allow the con- trol of airflow where it is needed.
Sealey says the
carefully balanced and ful- ly guarded blades provide safe operation in a work- shop and showroom appli- cation. The fans feature in the
Seaely Summer promotion and are available now from Sealey stockists.
Axalta Anticipates An Autonomous Future
Vehicle paint specialist
Axalta, the company behind the Spies Hecker, Standox, Cromax and Syrox refinish brands, has given an insight into how future coating will enable the development of autonomous vehicles. Barry Snyder, Axalta
Chief Technology Officer explains that for vehicles to “see” each other on the road safely, car paint needs to be reflective. Today, autono- mous vehicle
ping systems called LiDAR systems can more
light-map- easily
detect light-coloured vehi- cles due to their reflectivity. Axalta’s Automotive Color of the Year 2018, StarLite is a perfect example of a light-coloured coating and it even contains pearlescent flakes that contribute to its reflectivity. Though reflectivity plays
a key role in allowing au- tonomous vehicles to detect each other, coatings must also be formulated to receive and transmit laser light sig-
nals through paint without interference. Sensors will be covered in coatings, so the paint formulation would al- low signals to pass through the coating. If
this can be
achieved, car manufacturers will have more flexibility in terms of placement of the sensors and will have fewer limitations on the design of future vehicles. Barry said, “Ultimately,
vehicle design is still a ma- jor factor in car buyers’ de- cisions, so coatings need to be formulated to achieve the reflectivity and transmissivi- ty required by autonomous vehicles, while also being at- tractive and durable. In ad- dition, solutions should al- low for colour variety since consumers seek unique and brilliant
colours to match
their preference. As a coat- ings player, Axalta is abso- lutely fully invested in solv- ing these problems. We are already anticipating where these issues are and working on them.”
