within 24 hours to play Carrigtwohill on Fri- day evening on the ever hardening ground. Car- rigtwohill were a little un- derstrength but still gave us a very tough challenge. Olan, Paul and Dara were all on form again in the scoring stakes, with Paul’s two goals on 11 and 26 minutes giving us a 2-9 to 0-6 half time lead. Barry Motherway with two points and Dy- lan Hogan with one, both had good outings “i lár na páirce”. When Dar- ragh O’Connor pointed on 39 minutes we led by 2-12 to 0-8. However, our final 20 minutes was far from satisfactory, as Carrigtwohill dominated in the middle third and added five points to our

played by our Under 14 team in Killeagh in the past week saw us finish with one exciting vic- tory and one narrow defeat. The match with Courceys on Monday was definitely our best performance of the year so far, as we recovered from being 2-8 to 1-6 (on 22 minutes) and 3-13 to 2-11 (on 42 minutes) be- hind to storm home with a blistering final quarter. From the 47th

out-scored Courceys by 2-10 to 1-1, with Callum Martin

evening in round 5 of their

and came away a point to the good after leaving lisgoold creep back into it in the last 3
minutes.Bri- an Hartnett was to open the Rovers scoring with a beautiful strike out on the right wing the first of a personal score of 1-9 for Bud thru’ out the game. Lisgoold did reply with a point of their own before great interpassing between Bud,Luke and Danny gsve Fintan Murray the time to fire
over. This is the way the game went for the next 20 minutes with some of the exchanges tough and phys- ical at
times.Luke Murray was to score an exception- al point out on the right wing after shifting some heavy blows as he raced along the side
line.Lis- goold were to go 2 up on 25 minutes after two excel- lent strikes from Cashman before Rovers were award- ed a free on half way.Up stepped Danny Moynihan to fire home a superb point and this was quickly added to by another Bud strike from play. With time almost
up that man Bud struck again to leave Rovers with a one point lead 10-09 at the short whistle.I am sure Frank Flannery has a few choice words to say at half time and this was evidient as the second half started very brightly for the Rov- ers despite giving an easy point right from the throw
in.Rovers increased the intensity of their play and started to move the ball very fast around the field. It took Lisgoold a while to get up to the increase in pace and this left Rovers go into a 3 point lead after 8 minutes with two excel- lent points from Luke and Kevin Moynihan.Eoghan O’Sullivan was to come on after 13 minutes in replace of Jack McGrath at wing forward and immediate- ly fired over a point from out on the left. With Rovers now in full flight a great piece
of individual skill
from Bud saw him weave his way thru’ the Lisgoold defence to fire home the first goal of the game after 16 minutes and give a solid lead of 1-17 to
0-12.How- ever Lisgoold were not to lie down and responded immediately with a goal of their own, followed by a
point.Rovers were now to bring on Kevin O’Brien for James Aherne at cor- ner back and immediately started a move out of de-
fence with a simple pass to Kevin Moynihan who found Sully in space from where he duly
obliged.Lis- goold again came at us and scored an unfortunate goal to bring the game down to a one score match(3pts). before Kevin Moynihan struck from play on 27
mins. The next 3 minutes were hard fought with Lis- goold firing over 3 points but could not get the bet- ter

back. In spite of conced- ing four goals, our best player on the night was unquestionably Pierse Geary who made four fantastic saves, and is developing into a keeper of real bravery and class. Evan Daly scored our fi- nal point, firing over after a brilliant pacy run from midfield, while Daniel Walsh capped off a great second half performance with a bullet goal in the final minute. This was a great team performance, with Darragh O’Brien and Danny Fitzgerald also playing their best games of the year, both getting onto the score- sheet and leading the line very well. Well done to the panel and to bainiste- oiri Martin and Eoin.

Russell Rovers 3-15 Glanmire 2-9 (East Cork JB Football C/Ship Semi-Final) Russell Rovers qualified
for the final of the East Cork Junior B Football Championship after polished

in Castlemartyr was in good fettle and with the sun being kept back by the few clouds that appeared there were to be no excus- es from either
side. From the throw in Rovers were on the attack from mid- fielder David Whelehan who was fouled as he went
forward. From the result- ing free all the forwards were to exchange passes before Brian Hartnett fin- ished to put Rovers a point to the
good.It would be 7 mins before the next point from Glanmire as Rovers squandered a good few op- purtunities after excellent play out the
field.Glanmire were indeed to follow this point with 3 more and a cracker of a goal to leave Dan Ruddy in goals with no chance of a save,This left
the scoreline at 1-4
to 0-1 after 16 mins with Rovers having no answers.

www.eastcorkjournal.ie We were back out on
Friday evening when it was very warm. Lisgoold have one of these excep- tional players that we come across from time to time – Diarmuid Healy – and he was in flying form. Scoring rates were high on both sides, but Lisgoold finished strong- ly to be ahead at the final whistle. Callum Martin White, Dylan McCarthy, Conor Meade and David Buckley were our scorers on the night. Panel: Pierse Geary,

How ever after 17 minutes Brian Whelehan scored a point from out on the right corner
after some great
play out field from Daniel O’Brien and Kieran Walsh 2 players that were to cov- er serious ground before the game would finish. This was quickly followed by 2 more from Chris Ruddy (great to see Chris back
after injury) and
Luke Murray who was to go and give a man of the match performance,Glan- mire were to rock Rovers with another well excuted goal to leave them up 2-5 to 0-4 after 25
mins.Rov- ers were now to move JP Ivers from full back out to midfield where he was to win a lot of ball from the resulting
kick outs from
both keepers. With Rovers now gaining a lot of posse- sion a brace of points from Luke followed by points from Kevin Moynihan and Brian Hartnett left Rovers only 3 behind at half-time 0-8 to 2-5.I know Frank Flannery had a lot to say at halftime about players taking on their responsa- bilities and leaving every thing out on the field and this was to be very evident in the second half as we saw one the best perfor- mances from a Rovers side for quite a long time.Eo- ghan O’Sullivan and Eoin McGrath were to start the second half in place of David and Fintan but it was Glanmire who struck first with point from play.
