gressed to the knock out stage of the county league after only losing one match in the league section. We now face near neighbours Fr. O’Neills in the quarter final which will be a tough challenge but a one that we are looking forward to. Date and time TBC.

JULY IS HERE – HEATWAVE, THEN GOLF CLASSIC, THEN CÚL CAMP We’re a hard crowd to

please, us Irish, especially the GAA fanatics among us. October to March last saw us whinge and moan about the awful weather as Ophelia, Emma and the other almost weekly deluges, downpours and disastrous weather events drove us to distraction, despair and depression. Barely three months on from the unprecedented depths of snow, and we are in the midst of the longest and most severe heatwave any of us can remember, and it’s an- other D occupying our minds – the That

drought! beautiful golden

sun improves our dispo- sition, but alas and alack, our GAA pitches have gone from being mud- baths and partial duck ponds to arid wastelands where the grass just ain’t growin’ no more! Semple Stadium’s hallowed sod, the most perfect of all grounds for displaying the skills of our national game, even showed the effects of the heatwave on an otherwise glori- ous July 1st

Sunday. We

shouldn’t complain, as our worries are small in comparison with farm- ers of all kind relying on

some stable weather (i.e. regular rain interspersed with patches of sunshine) who have their livestock, crops and ultimately their livelihoods endangered due to this (repeat word, yes, but valid in this case!)

unprecedented

heatwave and drought. Who would have thought we’d be hoping for an ould drop of precipita- tion from above? Anyway, back to basics.

What’s July all about?? Golf Classic and Cúl Camp, in that

well as plenty of activity for the week. Last year we had record numbers of over 250 eager partici- pants, and the sun shone! Hopefully 2018 will see another brilliant week. You can book online now at www.kelloggscul- camps.gaa.ie but don’t delay a moment longer if you want to be sure of the kit! Olivia O’Rourke, our ever-busy rúnaí, is our Cúl Camp co-ordi- nator, if you have any questions contact her on 087-4111549.

JUVENILE NEWS – BUSY WEEK FOR MINORS AND UNDER 14s Rebel Óg Premier 2A Minor Hurling League Killeagh-Ita’s 1-14, Éire Óg 2-10 Rebel Óg Premier 2A Minor Hurling League Killeagh-Ita’s 2-15, Car- rigtwohill 0-13 Two very similar

games in Páirc Uí Chin- néide on Wednesday and Friday last thankfully saw similar results, giving us four league points. Same pitch, same testing heat conditions, same referee (Jim Daly efficient and in control as always), sim- ilar game pattern. Our boys got a good start in both games, led at half time, were reeled in af- ter half time and held on to win without being too convincing. The Éire Óg game was our first game since May’s cham- pionship that we had our exam students and Cork

players available. Olan Broderick, Dara Moth- erway and Paul Delaney were in flying form in the first half, scoring 1-10 be- tween them as we led by 1-10 to 1-5. The second half saw Éire Óg domi- nate as they nullified the threat

of these scorers,

and our half back line of Adrian Galvin, Ryan McCarthy and Cath- al Fitzgibbon, each of whom had been excel- lent in the first half, also found it more difficult to get clearances away. A second goal for our visi- tors reduced the margin after half time and the game was level – 1-12 to 2-9 – with ten minutes to go. Christian Cough- lan, who had an excel- lent second half before a late injury forced him off, popped up with a point on 51 minutes, Éire Óg equalized with a free on 54, before both sides squandered chances to win it (our visitors more profligate at this point). As the clock ticked into red, Paul Delaney found space and popped over the final point to give us a victory we

probably

didn’t deserve. Team: Richie Landers, Dan Lucey, Cian Mc- Donald, Kieran Daly, Adrian Galvin, Ryan Mc- Carthy, Cathal Fitzgib- bon, Barry Motherway, Dylan Hogan, Olan Broderick (0-6, 04f), Dara Motherway (0-4), Ciaran O’Rourke, Paul Delaney (1-2), Christian Coughlan (0-2), Darragh O’Connor.
