O’DONOGHUE The 11th
annual Ball-
inrostig Vintage Club Field Day is coming around the bend as the big day ap- proaches on Sunday,
July
8. The Ballinrostig Vintage Club affiliated with the Irish Vintage Society Ltd, will welcome its President, John Madden, who will officially open the event at 1pm. Always a fantas- tic day with cracking mo- tors and craicing fun. The programme of events this year is, as usual, packed with things to see, things to do and take part in for all ages. Not least of which is
the Munster Sheepdog
Trials. Years of dedication, patience and training of dogs by their owners (and vice versa) can be enjoyed as Munster’s finest pairings of man and his best friend are put on display for the coveted title. The age old pastoral practice still alive and well in rural Ireland and beyond. Another celebration of
canine companionship will be held on site at 3.30pm with the Best in Show Dog Competition, organised and judged by local vet in Cloyne, Sinéad Falvey. Plenty outdoor fun for
the kids to enjoy, a mo- bile pet farm with lots of spring’s recent arrivals to be petted, admired and fussed over, various sporting activ- ities, a treasure hunt, the ever popular barrel train and much more besides. What a great way to get them galloping around in the countryside, fuelled and tired on fresh air! Adults are by no means
left out of the day’s fun. There’s plenty lined up to keep them out of trouble too. Garde Engineering are sponsoring the trophy for the Sheaf Throwing competition, there will be the Pat Hickey Memori- al Trophy on offer for the tractor barrel competition (the fastest person to roll a keg up a hill with a tractor - in case that needed ex- plaining) and a particular- ly unique farming themed version game of Foosball, which is better seen live than described on paper! That’s a special
gaunt-
let thrown down between the Ballinrostig and Car- rigtwohill Vintage Clubs. Music on the day will be
provided by Trad group Tony McLoughlin and Band while array of local craft and food stalls will keep visitors fed and wa- tered as they stroll around viewing all the vintage cars, tractors, stationary engines and farming objet d’art from times past. Registra- tion is free and all those with vehicles registered on the day will be awarded a Commemorative Brass Plaque.
Making a special appear-
ance are the “Socket Rock- ets”, an amazing group of women who can reassem- ble a Ferguson Tractor in 10 minutes. Mná na hEire- ann abú! There will also be an skilled trashing dis- play and prizes galore for best turned out lady, gent, car, tractor, motorbike and commercial vehicle – no one and nothing will left out! This year, in association
with Farm Power, also cel- ebrates 100 years of John Deere. All owners of John Deere vehicles and memo- rabilia are invited to bring

them along for the public to view and admire. With a bumper raffle of cash prizes, hampers and spot prizes as well as all the ac- tivities on the programme,
this year is on course to be another great success so be sure to put the date in the diary for the whole family to enjoy. Parking is free with ad-
mission to the Field Day priced at just €5 for adults and no charge for children. All proceeds on the day and from all events during the year will be donated
to the very worthy, Mary- mount Hospice, Midleton Hospital and local charities at a special presentation night in Garryvoe Hotel on November 10.
