Youghal
Cinema Ready to Raise the Curtain
by CLAIRE O’DONOGHUE A perfectly designed
blend of old and new, with a reverend nod to the art deco design of the 40’s and the golden age of
cinema has restored,
not only the town’s be- loved old Picture House, but
the nostalgia and
glamour of a night at the movies. As opening night approaches in the next week or so, locals and vis- itors in Youghal and East Cork will see the extent of work that has gone into elevating a simple night at the pictures into
a bona fide night out. Inside of
a minute, it’s
evident that no expense has been spared on the craftsmanship, décor and digital technology that culminate in the finished product which is the new- ly refurbished Regal Cin- ema. Speaking with The East Cork Journal, David O’Rourke (Com- pany Director) said “It’s been a hard but personal- ly rewarding project. My family has strong ties with Youghal and that
has
helped keep inspiration and determination levels high.”

70 Social Homes Planned For Midleton
by SEAMUS WHELEHAN
The East Cork Munic-
ipality has given the go ahead for a 70 unit Social Housing Scheme to
go
back for public consulta- tion. The €14 million devel-
opment through a public private partnership will see a mix of two, three and four
bedroom houses, a
number of which will be wheelchair accessible. Planning for the devel- at
opment Abbeywood
Banshane, close to Gaels- coil
Mhainistir na Co-
rann, just off the N25 had planning granted in 2016 for 74 units, but was ap- pealed to an Bórd Pleanala following traffic and flood concerns locally. When the
Planning
Board eventually agreed to the rapid build project last May NAMA, who own the land, decided they were no longer developing turnkey sites outside of Dublin. The Department
of
Housing has since given the Local Authority per- mission to purchase the acreage from NAMA, sub- ject to Planning Approval. Continued on page 5
