Art Exhibit & Competition

Student

Since Art in the Wilds’ Beginning in 2007, student art has been featured. Kane Area High School Students showed their art as sole exhibitors. In 2015 we piloted a larger exhibit that included a competition in hopes of establishing a premiere annual Student Art Show for the region.

We invited 22 high school art teachers in McKean and its contig- uous counties to engage student participation. The show continues to grow with the amazing talent of high school artists of our region.

Eight high school art teachers have responded this year. For

their part the teachers agree to curate their top students’ art and help the students pre-register. It’s an online process now.

We are pleased to announce that the following schools will be participating in 2018: Austin and Oswayo-Valley from Potter County; Kane, Bradford, Port Allegany, and Otto–Eldred from McK- ean County; Ridgway from Elk County, and Sheffield from Warren County. We welcome you all.

We will receive the art of pre-registered students on Saturday at

the start of Art in the Wilds and will set and have the show judged and open to the public by 1 p.m. Saturday. The student show will be open also on Sunday until 3:30 p.m.. At 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, student artists will gather for photos and awards distribution and will pick up their art shortly thereafter.

More information about our show:

Juried Artist Awards. Five years ago we piloted an art- ist award program that continues. We continue this pro- gram to recognize the fine quality of work of our Art in the Wilds artists. Again this year jurors will visit artists’ booths and review bodies of work and booth presentations at the start of the show. Look for organizers to appear at artist booths to make the presentation and award ribbons and prize money before noon on Saturday. Awardees names will be posted in the Hospitality Tent. Partners. Art in the Wilds’ all-volunteer committee part- ners with the Wilds Cooperative of Pennsylvania (formerly named PA Wilds Artisan Trail), the Allegheny National For- est Vacation Bureau (ANFVB), PA Route 6 Artisan Trail, and the Kane Chamber of Commerce.

Leading up to and during the show we are fortunate to have 100 plus volunteers who distribute marketing materi- als throughout the region, come to help set up and tear down the show as well as support our artists, guests and committee during the show. We treasure their continued support.

Art in the Wilds Poster /Cover. Our thanks to Court- ney Mealy who designed the cover of our show program, also our poster, as well as our rack cards and ad blocks. Courtney is a new AIW committee member and is an ex- perienced marketing manager, a role she has assumed for our show. She is herself an artist and has lots of experience with managing art councils, shows, marketing, and media. Funding. Funding has been secured through grants from the Kane Community Development Foundation and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency fund- ed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. Major sponsor- ship contributions have also been secured from UPMC Kane, Northwest Savings Bank, Zook Motors, Inc., CNB Bank and Highlander Energy Products, Inc. Other busi- nesses, individuals and smaller organizations also support the show.

Sponsorship money provides our advertising budget for the show which is our greatest expense. Other expenses are covered by artist and food space rentals allowing us to

keep the show free to the public. There is no admission

fee. And free parking is available around the park. Some people and organizations like to sponsor to have their name associated with a fine arts event while some companies fit it into their advertising budget. Honorariums/Memorials. We accept honorariums to celebrate an occasion as well as memorials to celebrate the lives of loved ones. We gratefully acknowledge gift do- nors, and the honorees or family of memorial donations made.

Contributions may be sent to: Art in the Wilds, c/o Audrey McLaughlin 105 Pine Ave., Kane, PA 16735. We need the donor’s name, address, and phone number in the event of questions. We also need the name of the group or individual for whom the honorarium or memorial is being given, and the address of the same (or a family member) to notify of the gift.

Art in the Wilds is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. All contributions are tax deductible.
