My art is a trib-
ute to nature. My vision is to cap- ture and present the familiar with the brilliance and comfort of nature in a bold powerful
approach to evoke wows and smiles. I use all natural light for photographing flowers, food
, foliage. Arranged in a setting, growing in the garden or against black. Color. Shape. Movement. Water. Light. All tools in front of my camera.
Emotional attention to light and dark tones creates a
three-dimensional effect. My photographs are archival printed. Matted. Framed. Gallery wrapped and range in size from 4x6 to 36x45 inches.

Wood carving (Treenware)
I’ve worked
with wood for most of my life, building and re- modeling homes and making cedar strip canoes and canoe paddles. My interest in
history led me to the art of spoon making 33 years ago, and over the years I’ve demonstrated this craft at vari- ous historical events. Seven years ago I became a full-time SPOONER and attend about thirty shows each year. My son Jake is now apprenticing with me, keeping the spoon carving art alive. I enjoy creating functional wooden utensils like those that have been in use for thousands of years. I mostly use

cherry wood for its beautiful color and grain patterns, but also enjoy working with other woods such as pear, apricot, dogwood and sumac, anticipating the finished product. Larger utensils and bowls are cut from the logs and
the smaller utensils from boards, roughed out on a band saw, then finely sanded. Each piece has a hand-rubbed beeswax/oil finish. Some are made completely from tra- ditional hand tools such as a hatchet, bow saw, gouge, spokeshave and draw knife, working on a primitive shav- ing horse which acts as a vise. It is satisfying to create functional utensils incorporating the natural beauty of wood.
