Welcome to

Welcome to the 12th Annual Art in the

Wilds show in Evergreen Park in Kane on June 23 and 24! The Art in the Wilds volunteer committee works all year to create a fine show for you. We begin the year by meeting in July to dis- cuss what worked and what could make it better and we work through a Timeline to make it all come together.

If you’ve never been here, Kane is a small town in northwestern Pennsylvania and is surrounded on three sides by the Allegheny National Forest. It’s a beautiful drive from just about anywhere and is not far from the Kinzua Bridge Visitors’ Center and Sky- walk and the Kinzua Dam and Reservoir. Our setting for the show is a beautiful park that offers free parking all around it on both sides of the street.

Admission is

free to all making it accessible to all includ- ing families. Please don’t bring your pets though, because the borough has an ordi- nance that doesn’t allow them in the park. At our juried show, you can expect to see 40 white tents filled with creative artists and fine art that will grab you and make its way into your heart and your home. These artists come from all around Pennsylvania, New York and Ohio. Each year we have more applicants and it gets harder for our jurors to choose.

Many of our high school alumni come back every five years as their class celebrates, adding a flair of excitement and happiness to the atmosphere.

Look for our many volunteers who are all in matching tangerine t-shirts and buy a shirt of your own! The volunteers will be happy to answer any questions for you. Food vendors will be in place offering

crab cakes, homemade ice cream, burgers and fries, kettle corn, fried funnel cakes and new this year, Erin and her taco truck. Yum!!

The Student Art Show will include high school students from eight schools in McK- ean County and its contiguous counties. This popular show is growing to include more schools each year! It’s a great oppor- tunity for the students to connect with the artists and to “pick their brains” about their favorite media.

Many artists will be doing demonstrations at their booths. And some will be doing them in the gazebo on Sunday. You can really appreciate the creativity, the time and the energy that artists spend on making each piece of art just right.

Background music will be wafting about so as you are walking around enjoying the art and artisans, sit down on a bench (which could also be a bale of hay) and relax and lis- ten.

At the Hospitality tent, in- troduce yourself to Turina from the Allegheny National Forest Visitors Bureau. She’ll tell you about all the other wonderful things going on in the area. This is a family event so bring your kids and friends and enjoy the day!

Thanks for coming to the show! Marilyn Blackmore Show Director

P.S. Check out Kane Mayor Schimp’s wel- come on page six and read all about the ex- citing plans for Kane’s legacy parks and de- velopment around Kane starting on pages 7 and 8. Also, several of our regional partners have made recommendations for summer road/day trips -- art experiences, historical attractions, and outdoor adventures -- in the PA Wilds, on the PA Route 6 Artisan Trail, or in the Allegheny National Forest, which are sure to inspire.
