HS2 contracts are announced


Arup and WSP, both patrons of GBCC, have landed the design contracts for the first phase High Speed 2 (HS2) that will help transform Euston Station and deliver new stations in Birmingham, Solihull and Old Oak Common. London’s Euston station and


Birmingham Interchange will be designed by Arup while WSP has landed the contract for Old Oak Common and Birmingham Curzon Street. The contracts are believed to be worth £60m to £70m in total and the stations are due to open in 2026. Paul Faulkner, chief executive


of the GBCC, said: “This is tremendous news for two world class firms who are making a huge impact in the region. “We are already looking


ahead to the arrival of HS2, which is expected to unlock opportunities for 30,000 new homes and 130,000 jobs as part of wider developments around the four stations.”

The Chamber welcomes Russ By Philip Parkin


Russ Ashman has joined the Chamber as its first ever sponsorship manager. Russ, who lives in


Worcestershire, has a background in sales and advertising, and has spent the last 15 years working in the sponsorship sector, mainly helping sports clubs attract sponsors. “I will be helping members and non-members enhance their brand awareness in Birmingham via that extensive calendar of events that the Chamber hosts,” he said. “My role will involve working


with businesses of all sizes who want to raise their profile in the region. “Within this role, I will be


promoting the message that the Chamber’s branding opportunities are open to everyone, including members, non-members, and companies or brands that may or may not have a presence in the area. “The Chamber has never been
