A lesson in website


management Lichfield based digital marketing agency Cocoonfxmedia is helping local schools keep pupils and staff bang up to date via their websites. The agency has launched an easy-to-use


content management system (CMS), which can help schools keep on top of all the information they want to post on their websites. The CMS can be tailored to specific needs, but


also includes the huge amount of information that Government education standards body Ofsted insists on, such as school performance tables. Another potential use


for the CMS is that it can be used to send out warnings about school closures in the event of snow or some other event. Cocoonfxmedia managing


director James Blackman (pictured) said: “The system is completely bespoke to fit the user’s exact needs. “Furthermore, once the website is live we


don’t just leave you to it, we will train you on how to use the system. “A website is extremely important for your


school and could be that one thing that’s holding your school back from getting the ‘outstanding’ review.” Cocoonfxmedia design partner Glen Tapper

Growing business invests in the future


Continued growth and success for Lichfield- based SE Controls has resulted in the company investing more than £450,000 in premises expansion and new personnel - with a further £1m scheduled for product development during 2018 and 2019. SE Controls, which was featured as one of the


best performing businesses in 2017’s BDO Staffordshire Growth Barometer, designs, manufactures and installs smoke control solutions and automated facade systems for the construction industry and has grown by 40 per cent since 2015, with turnover reaching just over £20m last year.

The company has four international offices in addition to its UK HQ and employs 150 personnel globally. Around 60 per cent of the staff are located in


the UK at Fradley Park, which houses a manufacturing innovation centre and a head office, both of which are the primary focus for the investment programme. During the first phase of the investment


completed in 2017, the head office doubled in size to accommodate the growing number of sales, technical support and administration staff. The building was also completely remodelled to improve facilities with six new meeting rooms,

a spacious new reception area, washrooms and expansion of the car park. Group managing director for SE Controls, Will


Perkins, said: “We’re part of the way through a planned business growth and investment plan which is already transforming the way we do business both in the UK and overseas markets. “In addition to expanding and upgrading


facilities at our Hood Innovation Centre, we’re also investing in digital technologies such as 3D printing, business intelligence platforms and rapid prototyping systems, as well as increased in-house testing. “We are always keen to engage high quality


people, so part of our £1m investment will be directed toward new staff and growing our highly skilled team.”


Start-ups offered support and funding


A small business grant scheme which has so far awarded 15 individuals a total of £14,753.68 is considering a fourth round of applications. The scheme helps promote new business


start-ups, self-employment and entrepreneurship in Tamworth. New businesses in the area are now being considered for a fourth round of grants of between £500 and £1,500. A wide range of businesses have benefited


from the grant scheme since it was launched in April last year. To receive the grants, individuals are


required to meet some basic criteria. This includes attending the Enterprise for Success programme, which provides 12 hours of one-to- one advice and support delivered from

Productions Ltd, which was awarded £836 towards the cost of equipment. Emily Cowlishaw (pictured) set the business up while studying for a bachelor’s degree in media production at the University of Lincoln. The business offers photography, videography and visual radio services. Emily said: “I can fully


recommend this scheme to any business looking to start up or grow. Not only have I received a grant to help me


develop, but the advice and support from the Enterprise for Success programme has been invaluable and I still speak to my mentor now.” Cllr Steve Claymore, Cabinet member


for regeneration, said: “Small businesses are the foundation of any thriving economy and using the new Tamworth Enterprise Centre as a ‘hub’ of support and advice can only help grow the local economy.” Grant applications are


recommended to the Cabinet grants committee on a quarterly basis for approval. An annual budget of £20,000 has been allocated to the scheme.
