Malone Group in Burton move
An international professional project management firm has chosen Burton as the location for its new UK headquarters. Malone Group, which was established in
Ireland in 1999, has moved to a new 5,500 square feet UK headquarters at Skyline Court, in Centrum 100, Burton. Providing a main base for project delivery in
the UK, the expansion has seen the company completely refurbish the new site while creating 25 new jobs in the town. The move follows a series of acquisitions to
vary the scope of the rapidly expanding business and provides the opportunity for up to 15 further roles in professional engineering and safety over the next 18 months. Plans are also in place to offer employee
training schemes to match their ‘Engineers Ireland’ programme so that the company can not only be at the forefront of the industry but also in developing the engineers of the future. Malone CEO Stephen Malone said: “Burton is
the perfect location for us to grow. Malone Group specialises in working with the food and drink and pharmaceutical industries which are both growth areas for this location. “As a company we have been operating in the
UK since 2012 and we are keen to vary our scope of expertise to offer more to our clients. Recent acquisitions and the move to the central UK headquarters makes that possible.” With Malone Group also entering in to the
North American market with a base in Calgary, Canada, it provides further opportunity for the Burton base to grow.

Female students build careers Two female construction students from Burton
and South Derbyshire College have gained apprenticeship job roles with St Modwen Homes. Jodie Allen and Katarzyna Cifci, who are
studying HNC in construction and the built environment, were interviewed for the positions after winning joint ‘Student of the Year’ in a competition run in partnership with the college and St Modwen Homes. Jodie said: “My advice to other women looking
to enter the construction industry would be to go for it. Companies are always promoting diversity these days so there is nothing stopping you.” Katarzyna, who came to the UK from Poland
in 2009, said: “As a woman from another country working in the construction industry, I have shown that nothing can stop me.” Geraint Davies, deputy director of curriculum,
construction and engineering skills at Burton and South Derbyshire College said: “It is important to redress the balance in what has traditionally been a male-dominated environment and we are encouraging girls who are interested in construction to pursue their goals.”
town is an innovative player in an ever-changing industry. Our location at the heart of the country puts us in a prime position and is just one of the reasons as a town we are seeing such growth in the industry. “As Small Business Minister, I am keen to
develop further connections with the town’s successful businesses which are the life blood of our economy and the reason as a town we continue to thrive.”
A faster way to
report crime Burton & District Chamber of Commerce has backed an initiative by Staffordshire Police to cut out red tape by reporting business crime online. Businesses across the county can now
report crimes through the Staffordshire Police website. If you report a crime on behalf of your
business online you will be provided with a desk-based investigation, with a police officer sourcing statements over the telephone and evidence such as CCTV being uploaded directly to the police constabulary’s IT system. This new approach has already seen a
much faster response to crime reports and is saving response officers' time. Simon Chapman, president of the Burton
