AROUND TOWN Fe-fi-fo-fum a
adventure is coming to Rotherham Oh, yes it is, as the popular
pantomime returns to Rotherham Civic Theatre with the classic family tale of Jack and the Beanstalk.
Brought to you by Shone Productions for the fourth consecutive year, join Jack and the gang as they battle to save their village from the clutches of the almighty Blunderbore.
In a land not far away, Jack Trott and his family own the local dairy farm, with former West End child star, Andrew McGuire, taking the lead as principal boy, Jack.
Together with the hilarious Danny Mills as Dame Trott and comedy star Bippo as Jack’s brother, Silly Billy, the family are down on their luck when the milk dries up and are forced to sell their beloved cow, Daisy.
On his way to market, Jack comes across the story’s villain in a cloak and dagger disguise, with
GIANT
former Corrie trickster Terry Duckworth – or Nigel Pivaro – taking centre stage as the wickedly devious Fleshcreep, henchman to the Giant. Known as the wayward son of Jack and Vera, Nigel’s role as heinous rogue Fleshcreep will be his 16th pantomime appearance, attracting plenty of boos and hisses from the audience. With Blunderbore having already ravaged the village of food and money, Fleshcreep turns his attention to cattle and offers to trade Daisy for five gold coins, or so Jack thinks. He should have kept his finger on the pulse and realised this deal isn’t as broad as it seems – he’s been given some pointless old beans!
After an earful from his Mother, Jack tosses the beans into their vegetable patch and takes his sorry self off to bed. Yet in the morning, the family awaken to see an enormous beanstalk has sprouted in their back garden – the magic beans the work of Natalie Pilkington’s Fairy Butterbean.
While the others have been sleeping, Fleshcreep
has been scheming and has captured Jack’s love interest, Princess Jill, played by soprano and comedienne, Rosie Houlton. Back from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with her one woman cabaret, Rosie is swapping Miss Independent for damsel in distress as she tries to sing her way free from the Giant’s cage.
But which local hero will be brave enough to face Blunderbore and save their Princess? It could only be Jack. As a dancer for over 25 years and having performed with Craig David and Lee Ryan, Andrew’s quick and nimble feet will mean he can foxtrot up the beanstalk to Cloudland in no time – slowly followed by the rest of the cast.
Luckily for Jack, Blunderbore’s diet of Children Pies means he might not end up on the menu, but can he defeat Fleshcreep and the Giant before saving the day – golden eggs and all? Book your tickets early to avoid disappointment and relive this magical story all over again.
