CHRISTMAS

Christmas shopping at

‘Tis the season to be jolly, so don’t let your ever-increasing to-do list leave you feeling like Scrooge. Take a trip to Elsecar and enjoy your festive shopping all in one place.

Once the home of the Earl Fitzwilliam’s ironworks, the workshops at Elsecar are now filled with dozens of independent shops, studios and eateries that are sure to make your days merry and bright.

Before December arrives, get a head start on your personalised Christmas crafts by stocking up on materials to help form your handmade cards, wreaths, decorations and advent calendars at the on-site craft shop.

Or create a snowy scene for your Christmas cards with an encaustic art workshop, using an iron and coloured beeswax to skilfully paint stunning scenes.

As the handmade stockings hang by the fireplace, fill them with glorious gifts you’ve discovered at Elsecar.

Christmas is of course a time for children, so make it a magical year with the help of Elsecar’s two toy shops. From wooden play sets to finger puppets and story books, choose gifts to combine playing and learning with an extra

sprinkling of fun.

Wrap up something special with the ladies’ clothing boutique and their range of warming winter capes, jumpers and scarves for a fashionable find. Or give treats for feet with the shoe shop and their collection of party heels, casual boots and comfy slippers.

Visit the new dark fantasy shop for gothic creatures and characters on cushions, mugs and charm bracelets. Or bring light into your loved ones’ lives with birthstone hearts and friendship balls from the stained glass shop.

Spin into the party season with the vinyl record shop and their huge selection of LPs from across every genre, from country to jazz, rock to soul with sounds of the past to add some jingle to your Kringle.

Give the gift of their favourite icon with the bespoke art studio and their striking music, film and sports portraits. Or surprise your family with a post-Christmas photo shoot session with the photographer studio.

New artwork or photography should sit proud of place on the walls of your home – Elsecar is also home to a specialist picture frame shop.

Looking for ideas for the ho- ho-home? Stop by Elsecar for bespoke oak or pine furniture or nifty gifts such as chopping boards, cake stands and candles.

Known for their 18th century heritage, it wouldn’t be Elsecar without a relic or two. Along with the extensive antiques centre, the site is also home to an auction house and an antique clock repair shop. This December, step back in time with two antiques fairs, with the Winter Wonders auction on Sunday 3rd and the large antiques fair on Sunday 10th December.

And after all that shopping, take a break in one of the two tearooms, with hot roast sandwiches, homemade festive bakes and great coffee. Or for something a little stronger, visit the beer shop with ten draught ales to enjoy inside or hundreds of craft beer bottles to make it a merry Christmas. And you can’t leave without a sweet treat or two. The traditional sweet shop is filled with old fashioned favourites and homemade fudge.

Kick start your festive shopping

with their late night opening on Friday 24th November where the site will stay open until 9pm. That weekend also plays host to the Script craft weekend with lots of stalls to browse across the weekend.

If you have little shoppers in tow, why not let them run off steam in the soft play centre. Or hop onboard the heritage railway line with Santa special services on selected dates in December.

And Elsecar is for life, not just for Christmas, with other shops including gardening products, a beauty clinic and bridal boutique to enjoy all year round.
