to the November/December 2017 edition of Aroundtown. Dear Reader

Welcome C

hristmas always starts a little early for us as we visit many of our local independent shops to bring you some

festive inspiration. From gift ideas and places to shop, to pubs and restaurants to enjoy family times, there is plenty to discover right on your doorstep.

Speaking of doorsteps, it has been very encouraging to welcome so many people over our threshold this year who have shared with us their stories from the local community.

A special visitor this year has been none other than

Father Christmas who, before his busy workload begins, came to tell us his plans to visit Rotherham again this year with a wonderful fundraising event for Rotherham Hospice.

Christmas is a magical time and there is nothing like a good panto to keep your childhood memories alive. In this edition, we worked with a Barnsley historian and former actor who kindly helped us to stage the history of Barnsley’s former theatres. We hope you enjoy a trip down memory lane and support the theatres that still remain today.

A time for giving, Christmas is also a season of goodwill where many people look to support those in need. Laying bare their inhibitions, we spoke to the man behind the Fat Lads Calendar who is hoping to raise £10,000 for men’s charities – hats off to them bravely stripping off for a good cause, we’ll definitely be hanging one in the office.

One a final note, thank you for being part of our journey and making Aroundtown a much loved publication we are proud to produce. Let’s raise a glass to a successful 2017 and hope next year is even better.
