Automotive China visit steers Emtec in right direction
Emtec Colleges, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Central College Nottingham, has conducted one of its regular training visits to China in order to carry out Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) quality assessments, plan reciprocal training visits, and share best practice. Stephen Turner, Emtec Sector
Development Manager (Automotive) and IMI International Regional Quality Assurer, spent 13 days in China, starting in Beijing. The visit to Beijing included
Beijing Polytechnic, where Stephen met automotive students and carried out an interactive question and answer session with them about IMI, Emtec and the motor industry. Further meetings took place in

Wuhan, in Hubei province, to explore new business opportunities with both potential and existing partner colleges, as well as Huanggang Polytechnic College, a partner since 2012.
The next stop was Chengdu
Industrial Vocational College, a partner of Emtec for the past six years, with Stephen catching up with colleagues, carrying out inspections and getting to know current students through another question and answer session, with those in attendance keen to learn more about IMI and the industry. Stephen said: “Emtec has been
building a presence in China over the past ten years, and I’ve been lucky enough to train more than 200 delegates both at our Ruddington Centre in Nottingham and across China over the past four years. “I never get tired of seeing
colleagues from Chinese colleges who we have trained in the UK back in their own professional environment, imparting the IMI knowledge and skills to their students. It’s exciting to see the market in China for UK industry and international qualifications opening up even more, and to get the opportunity to share best practice.”
