Where business psychology meets personal health

By Elaine Godley MBA, FRSA, O.A. Dip (Psychology)

What is Perfect Health?

Perfect Health is different for everyone, and a real challenge for those of us with busy careers. How we achieve a good balance of work/life/health, can be a real mystery. Did you know that your

behaviour directly relates to your success in business, your personal relationships, and how healthy you are too? In my experience of being a

CEO, COO, business transformational consultant, single mother, grandmother, entrepreneur, and having cancer four times, I am fully conversant with what it takes to achieve and maintain good health and wellbeing. As you can read, I haven’t always got it right!

Qualified in nutrition and

psychology, with an MBA and oodles of practical experience in living well and managing a team, I am now offering the benefit of my guidance at clinics in Nottingham and online. I frequently give

presentations and workshops on how to manage teams for optimal performance and health. Why not give me a call on 079615 36419 or visit one of my clinics?

48 business network October 2017 JCB investment in young talent

JCB has announced the recruitment of almost 170 apprentices and graduates as the company steps up investment in its Young Talent programme. This year, the company is ploughing £7.5m into

recruiting young people into the business to help meet future growth – triple the amount invested in the scheme when it started four years ago. Of the 168 people who are joining JCB, a total of 117

are apprentices – the biggest ever single intake of apprentices in the 71-year history of JCB. A number will be Higher Apprentices who will go on to take degrees, learning while they earn and avoiding the need to incur costly student loans. It brings to £20m the amount the company has

invested in its Young Talent programme over the past four years – an initiative which has seen around 550 graduates and engineers join the business.

Lord Bamford

JCB Chairman Lord Bamford started his career as an engineering apprentice in 1962 before joining JCB in 1964. He said: “Young people are the future of our company and investing in young talent is vital as the company expands.”

Museum develops skills in the visitor economy

Let there be light: Students getting a close-up look at ‘A Philosopher Lecturing on the Orrery’ by Joseph Wright of Derby

Derby College has teamed up with Derby Museums to provide additional opportunities for travel and tourism and creative arts students based at the Roundhouse and the Joseph Wright Centre. The Derby Museum Employer

Academy joins more than 20 other partnerships with local and regional businesses and organisations, with students applying to be part of a year-long programme including guest speakers, special projects, work placements and mentoring support. Many employers also offer

interviews at the end of the year for any job vacancies, apprenticeships or internship opportunities available to the students and provide references for the young people’s future job searches. One of the first activities will be tours of Derby Museum and Art

‘As a major cultural visitor attraction we were keen to support young people with their career ambitions and aspirations’

Gallery, Pickford’s House, to learn more about the future redevelopment plans for the Silk Mill, which will be completed in 2020. There will also be guest lectures

on a wide range of topics including the importance of retail and customer care and the challenge of providing free access to cultural attractions while still remaining financially viable. Derby Museums Visitor Services Manager, Janine Derbyshire, said: “As a major cultural visitor attraction, we were keen to support young people with their career ambitions and aspirations and give them a wider insight into the opportunities available to them in the visitor economy.

“A key aspect of the work that

the students will be involved with is developing flexible and transferable skills that are vital among our own staff and therefore important for the young people to appreciate as part of their future working lives.” April Hayhurst, Derby College

Deputy Principal – Employer and Economic Affairs, said: “Developing skills in the visitor economy is a key objective for the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership. “The employability skills that our

students will gain through their involvement with Derby Museums will be a fantastic way of developing these individuals and also feeding new ideas into the curriculum for a wider cohort of young people.”
