Midlands Engine on track to find China opportunities

worth an estimated £2.5bn. Turkey’s enhanced health

insurance coverage has enabled its healthcare budget to grow considerably and demand is increasing for new healthcare facilities across the country. The provision of goods and services, dental, products for the elderly and disabled, medical devices, security and software are all identified as potential areas where UK businesses can add value. Demand for energy in Turkey is

increasing by six to eight per cent annually and the government has set a target for the share of renewable energy to reach 30% of total energy consumption by 2023, so energy firms in the UK are well placed to benefit from this. There are major solar energy project plans that are supported by the Turkish government, such as a £3bn project providing 4,000 MW of solar energy to power over one million homes and, due to its climate and topography, Turkey is also attractive for wind energy investments.

If you would like to find out more about doing business in Turkey, or have any specific questions, please contact Enterprise Europe Network on 0333 320 0333, via eeninfo@emc-dnl.co.uk or tweet @EEN_Midlands.

Businesses in the region are invited to join a Midlands Engine mission to China, the world’s second largest economy and home to over 1.38 billion people. Following a highly successful market visit to China

in 2016, this initiative aims to boost economic growth across the Midlands through enhanced trade and investment, and will include a visit to the China International Industry Fair in Shanghai, before moving on to Hefei, the largest city in Anhui Province. The China International Industry Fair (CIIF) has

become the most influential international industry exhibition in China, boasting over 2,500 exhibitors and 160,000 trade visitors. CIIF is a leading event for manufacturers in China as well as an important window and platform open to the world for international trade, communication and cooperation. This year, the UK is Country of Honour at CIIF, with 8 November confirmed as Midlands Engine Day, with dedicated local and national media and promotional activities planned to further highlight the huge opportunities offered to China by the Midlands region of the UK.

Hefei is the capital of Anhui province, which is

home to 60 million people, making it almost a market in itself. This area of China is known for both well-established manufacturing industries and more than 200 higher education and scientific research facilities, including the University of Science and Technology of China. Businesses which are secure in the UK market, have

new technology or products to launch to the Chinese market, want to grow in China or seek Chinese investment should use this unique opportunity to meet Chinese companies and establish those new and important relationships. Market visits offer participants the unique comfort of travelling with a group and a structured programme in market, with the aim of meeting their business objectives. Funding is also available for eligible businesses.

For more information or to register for the Midlands Engine Market Visit to China, which takes place 7-11 November, please email Laura Howard, the Chamber’s Head of International Trade, at laura.howard@emc-dnl.co.uk
