New homes offer community benefits

A development of new homes in Mansfield from local housebuilder Rippon Homes is providing a total of £155,392 in community contributions as well as much-needed new homes for local people. The development, called Oakham Gardens, has proved so popular

since its launch in January that already 20 of the 25 three- and four- bedroom properties have been secured by home hunters off plan. Construction work is now underway on the site, located on Hermitage Lane, which was formerly a derelict factory and eyesore. As well as the community funding, which will be spent on affordable housing and education in the West Mansfield area, the development is putting this disused Brownfield site back to good use. The development will ultimately provide a range of styles suitable

for young professionals and growing families. Ian Dyke, Managing Director at Rippon Homes, said: “As a

Mansfield-based housebuilder, we are proud to contribute towards our local community. We believe in the importance of providing new homes and supporting local residents.”

Charity bowled over by cricketers’ efforts

Sports stars and politicians have taken to the crease in aid of White Ribbon UK, a national campaign for the eradication of male violence against women. In conjunction with Leicestershire

County Cricket Club and the National Asian Cricket Council, the event saw two teams compete for the Regal White Ribbon Trophy. Among the stars taking part

were former England cricketers Kabir Ali and Minal Patel. Wasim Khan MBE, CEO of

Leicestershire CCC and former professional cricketer, said: “It is a great pleasure to host this match and be part of the White Ribbon UK Campaign. We are a club that firmly supports the eradication of male violence against females. As well as watching a great game of cricket, I know that everybody who attended supports our aim of raising greater awareness of this cause.” Chris Green OBE, founder of

White Ribbon UK, added: “Sport provides a fantastic opportunity to engage young people and spread a message of respect and equality. This is key to everything that White Ribbon stands for. We’re delighted to be provided with this wonderful opportunity by Wasim Khan and call ‘all out’ on violence in all its shapes and forms.”
