BCC offers marketing agency a new purpose


Full-service marketing agency and Chamber patron Purpose Media has been commissioned to create the new website for national business body the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC). The firm, based off junction 28 of the M1, has been


tasked with creating a more modern online platform which is engaging for visitors and solidifies BCC’s position as the UK’s leading business organisation. BCC is the umbrella body for an independent and


influential network of accredited Chambers of Commerce based in every region of the UK, of which the East Midlands Chamber (Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire) is one, and in key markets around the world. The network supports more than five million employees in the UK.

The new website is aimed at positioning BCC as a


modern, dynamic, forward-thinking organisation with business at its heart. It will act as a central online hub, giving businesses, regional Chambers, politicians and policymakers easy access to information about key BCC and Chamber network activities across a range of devices. It will also consolidate several existing standalone BCC websites on to a single platform. Purpose Media was awarded the contract after a


competitive procurement process which saw agencies from across the UK submit tenders. It was chosen from a shortlist of six companies, following a pitch at BCC’s London head office. Matt Wheatcroft, the firm’s Managing Director,


said: “We’re a long-standing supporter of Chambers of Commerce, so are thrilled to have won this contract. BCC is a fantastic organisation which does a lot of great work to help businesses across the UK.” Allan Williams, Senior Press and Communications Manager at the BCC, said: “Purpose Media’s detailed understanding of how the BCC needs to position itself externally, aligned with its clear technical expertise, made it the stand-out choice.”

Lace maker crafts panel fit for a queen


Derby lace maker, Louise West, based in Connect Derby’s Friar Gate Studios, is one of just two UK lace makers to have worked on a project to create 18 delicate place mats for the Golden Wedding Anniversary of Queen Margarethe II and Prince Henrik of Denmark. Louise is one of 18 lace makers


from across the world who contributed to the project, which was conceived by The Danish Lace Guild (Knipling i Danmark) back in 2014. Given a flexible brief that only


specified the size of the piece and the type of thread to be used, Louise designed a special 12cm wide and 36cm long panel inspired by the Derbyshire countryside, which she passes through every day on her way to Friar Gate Studios. The design, which Louise named


The English Hedgerow, took over 88 hours to complete over a four- month period with 705 pairs of bobbins used throughout the piece. Louise’s lace panel, along with


the 17 others, was mounted on the left edge of place mats, which were also hand stitched, and presented to the Danish Queen and Prince on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary last month. Louise said: “This has been such
