STRATEGIC PARTNERS AND PATRONS

bmi regional flying on the wings of success

How bmi regional continues to go from strength-to-strength, by Planning and Business Development Manager, Susie Green

Rising like a phoenix out of the ashes of history, bmi regional has grown successfully into its current guise, finding its place in an ever-changing and challenging aviation market place. Here’s a quick history lesson illustrating the rise and fall and rise again of bmi regional.

TIMELINE OF THE PAST 1987 Airline established as Business Air 1997 Business Air purchased by British Midland and becomes British Midland Commuter, a subsidiary of British Midland

2001 Name changed to bmi regional 2012

British Midland International acquired by International Airlines Group (IAG) and integrated into BA. Subsidiaries disposed of, however bmi regional saved by an acquisition by Sector Aviation Holdings, retaining the bmi regional brand

2015 bmi regional becomes part of Airline Investments Limited along with its sister company Loganair

2017 bmi regional currently operates to 31 destinations in 11 countries across Europe and operates a fleet of 20 Embraer 135 and 145 jets.

Being a very different business model to the low

cost carriers and legacy carriers, bmi regional has used its all-jet fleet to its advantage and positioned

itself in the marketplace as a premium brand, all- inclusive service for the travelling business person. Operating a fleet of 49-seater Embraer jets allows the airline to be nimble to the stresses and strains of the corporate and industry market demand. bmi regional’s agenda today is a strategically-

focused method of network planning with an emphasis on corporate and industry engagements and alliances. Add to this its full codeshares with Lufthansa out of Munich and Frankfurt and with Brussels Airlines out of Brussels and the growing list of interline agreements, bmi regional has everything covered, from travelling domestically to flying to the other side of the world. Being one of the few full-service airlines leftover

from the halcyon days of flying, bmi regional has refrained from taking a sledgehammer to one of its key USPs. Being headquartered at East Midlands Airport and

having operations out of East Midlands and Birmingham Airports, as well as being strategic partners with the Chamber, bmi regional is perfectly placed to weave itself into the fabric of the Midlands corporate landscape and improve both existing and potential future connectivity.

Air-IT moves its HQ to a new home

Award-winning managed ICT service provider Air-IT has relocated its headquarters to new 5,400sq ft premises at Interchange 25 Business Park, Nottingham. By retaining its previous 4,000sq

ft head offices at Nottingham Business Park, the move more than doubles its footprint to almost 10,000sq ft of office space, supporting the company’s ongoing growth strategy to increase current turnover to £10m and the size of its workforce to 100 by 2022. With a £200,000 investment in

fit out alone, the new high tech offices boast an open plan design over two storeys, with informal spaces for staff to meet and collaborate in a spacious environment.

NTU rated gold in Teaching Excellence Framework

Nottingham Trent University (NTU) has been awarded a gold rating for its outstanding teaching and learning in the Government’s new Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). An independent panel,

appointed by the Department for Education, announced the full results recently, with the gold rating demonstrating that NTU has been judged to deliver consistently outstanding teaching and learning, which represents the highest quality to be found in the UK. Edward Peck, Vice Chancellor,

NTU, said: “The TEF rates universities for the quality of their teaching using metrics that look specifically at teaching, student satisfaction, and graduate outcomes, all areas in which NTU excels. To be rated as gold is recognition of the importance that we place on those three key areas.”
