HR & EMPLOYMENT

FEATURE

‘It is hoped that employers acting lawfully and in line with their contracts and procedures will not see a major change and that, by removing a barrier to employees seeking justice, we will see an improvement in workers’ rights’

tribunal fees to pay and employees being able to submit claims online at the click of a button. It is now more important than ever that every business’

HR and Employment law practices are watertight. Businesses must now be proactive to ensure that contracts and policies are in place, and managers follow procedures. This is a perfect example of prevention being much cheaper than the cure. HR should be back at the top of the agenda as the chances of an expensive mistake are set to increase. While the Government will compensate up to £32m to

claimants, we will never know how many workers missed out because they couldn’t afford the expense. Indeed, it is hoped that employers acting lawfully and in

line with their contracts and procedures will not see a major change and that, by removing a barrier to employees seeking justice, we will see an improvement in workers’ rights. Despite this, we are certainly expecting an increase in

the number of cases brought against employers and they will need to be prepared. This is the perfect time for businesses to carry out an HR audit, as well as ensuring that their contracts and HR procedures are in order - any mistakes, however small, could result in a costly tribunal and compensation.
