Annie enjoys, “putting the books in the correct order and making sure they are in the right place. It’s good to have the books like this because then it’s easier for people to find them”. Annie also commented that she likes making displays because they are “colourful” and fun to do.

Alicia’s favourite tasks are, “scanning the books in and out and setting up the displays.”

“I like seeing which books people have taken out of the LRC. It inspires me to read them too.”

I asked the students which books they have enjoyed reading most this year. Alicia really enjoyed, “Jessica’s Ghost because she loved the diverse characters that different people can relate to.” But she said that her favourite book is “Dork Diaries.”

Annie said: “I enjoy reading in general, I love reading but I have really enjoyed the Charlie Bone series this year. It’s about a boy that finds out he has magical powers and then him and his friends go on lots of adventures together.”

The girls both said that they would recommend becoming a student librarian because, “you can make new friends and it’s really good fun.”

They also said that next year they would like to keep working on the displays. “We have lots of good ideas.“

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the students that have helped in the LRC this year.

If you would like to be a student librarian, come and see Mrs Gray in the LRC.

RETURNING BOOKS TO THE LRC

If you have Matravers’ LRC books at home, please bring them back to school, as I am trying to collect in overdue books. Any returns are more than welcome and we won’t fine you.

SUMMER READING

If you buy or borrow any books over the summer holidays then it might be useful to see if they are on the Accelerated Reader programme. Simply go to https:// www.arbookfind.co.uk. Click on the Quick Search tab and type the author’s name, topic or book title. This will tell you if the book is on the programme and if it’s a suitable ability.

DEBATING SOCIETY

We are currently in the process of setting up a debating society at Matravers. This is going to be a chance for all students to get involved in debating, which will help to improve their speaking and listening skills. The first debate will be on the 20th July. The topic will be the introduction of Grammar schools and we are looking forward to a lively debate.

It’s been a great year in the LRC and there will be lots of fantastic events to look forward to next year.
