Languages (continued) POLYGLOT CLUB

In September the French department created the Polyglot club. This club was designed to help students expand their learning beyond French. We looked at

different languages but the one which most of the students wanted to learn was Spanish. We started our lesson by learning greetings and singing songs. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the club and came back every week for some more. Once students were a little bit more confident with the language, I introduced them to a Spanish soap which combined an adventure story with language needed for everyday life which students could learn and develop ready to go abroad and practise.

In term 6, I invited some Year 7 students to join the club and to start developing a project called “Studio Matravers”. Students have been creating videos similar to the ones we are currently watching in our lessons which form part of the Studio course and which show native speakers of French in their home town. We will hopefully continue with our project next year and create some amazing videos for parents and other students in the lower years. These videos are being produced to show how much a student can learn in just under a year of learning French.
