LEARNING SUPPORT YEAR 8 SOCIAL SKILLS

The Year 8 social skills group have been working on bullying. The different types, the impact of bullying, how to help themselves & others and where to seek help. This culminated with the group role playing a serious bullying incident that went to court. This gave the students insight on how the judicial system works and the consequences of such unacceptable behaviour. It also increased the students team working skills and confidence. All students were sworn in, gave evidence for their respective roles and cross- examined the witnesses. Due to the number of students in the group each student voted as to whether the accused was guilty or not guilty and the judge passed sentence. Students who normally wouldn’t stand in front of the class took to the stand and withstood cross examination. Everyone enjoyed it and we will be running an election campaign next.

Mrs Brittain

Science, Drama, Dance and Food! Miss Brennan was thrilled to see the students leave with smiley faces and get excited about their new school. For any student, moving school is a daunting process so we hope that those extra sessions have calmed any nerves and have prepared students for their world class experience in September.

YEAR 11 GOODBYE!

Learning Support would like to congratulate the Year 11s on completing their exams and wish them well with their future plans. We look forward to seeing familiar faces return in September as they continue with their education at Matravers School.

OLIVER’S SUCCESS!

We are extremely proud to announce that Oliver Palmer in Year 9 has been awarded with a BTEC Level 1 Teamwork, Personal Skills and Citizenship in Youth Organisations with his cadets. This represents as a significant achievement in Oliver’s personal development and it will stand Oliver in good stead for his

future studies and continuing development.

YEAR 6 TRANSITION Learning Support were delighted to welcome Year 6 students from local primary schools for their enhanced transition days. The students gained insight to life at Matravers School with taster sessions in the LRC,

potatoes

were planted in early April and here we can see Alfie and Taran with their hard work rewarded with some delicious new potatoes.

As well as the potatoes, we will harvest carrots, beetroot, courgettes, butternut squash and lettuce. This will then be taken to the cooking room to be sampled by our invited guests on our ‘Garden Open Day’ before the end of term.

We also picked many raspberries; those that were not eaten and made it to the freezer will be turned into a delicious desert.
