MATRAVERS SCHOOL PRIMARY MATHS CHALLENGE

On Thursday 6th July, Matravers hosted the first Primary Maths Challenge in association with UKMT.

Forty eight students from Westbury Juniors, Westbury Leigh and Bitham Brook participated in this challenging competition consisting of eight rounds. The questions required not just mathematical skills, but also problem solving, reasoning and collaborative working skills. The competition culminated in a relay round, pitting groups against the clock to answer as many questions correctly as possible.

The overall winners were Bitham Brook Team 3, CJ, Lily, Kieran and Emily, closely followed by Bitham Brook Team 2 and Westbury Leigh Team 1. The feedback received indicated that the event was enjoyed by all the students and teachers. One of the Primary Schools reported that “the children all thought it was fabulous!” whilst another said “the staff who came with our children today came back full of praise for super activities and a well organised day.”

Due to the success of the event Matravers Maths department hopes to make this an annual event.
