DANCE NYDC WORKSHOP

Matravers Dance is always supportive of our students especially when they put themselves out there and take every opportunity given to them. In May, two of our Year 11 dancers Joe Sanders and Dylan Jones took part in a workshop held by the National Youth Dance Company

(NYDC) in Swindon. Both boys danced beautifully, learning new and interesting repertoire to build their confidence and skills. We are very proud of both of our dancers, and want to say huge congratulations to Dylan who was shortlisted as a reserve dancer for future projects with the company, a huge accolade and honour. We could not be prouder.

ONE DANCE UK NATIONAL TEACHING AWARDS On Wednesday 14th June, Matravers Dance announced that the department have received two shortlisted nominations for the One Dance UK National Dance Teaching Awards. These national awards consisted of nearly 900 nominations across nine different categories within the Dance teaching profession. Nominations come from parents, students and colleagues to support the work of Dance teachers.

We are delighted to say that Mr Clark has been shortlisted for ‘Most Supportive Senior Leader’ award, demonstrating the outstanding efforts of Mr Clark in establishing Dance as the heart of the school and a truly established and flourishing subject at Matravers. We are incredibly proud of Mr Clark and his massive achievements within the field of Dance education.

Alongside this, Miss Richards, Head of Dance, has also received a shortlisting for ‘Outstanding

Secondary Dance Teaching’. The awards ceremony will take place on the 16th of July at the Birmingham Hippodrome where the finalist will be announced. We wish them both the best of luck in this huge achievement.

PERFORMING ARTS AWARDS On the 6th July, Matravers Dance will be joining forces with Music and Drama at Matravers to present our annual Performing Arts Award evening. Students have been nominated for dance specific awards to demonstrate and reward students in categories including ‘Potential in Dance’, ‘Best Group’, ‘Contribution to Dance’ and many more. After such an amazingly successful year it has been hard to pin point only a few nominees, and we are very proud of all of our students. The evening will also include performances from Endurance Dance Company, Alevel dancers Cameron Sinden and Ellie Sturgess and a Year 11 performance of ‘Shadows’, the GCSE Performance piece. Good luck to all of our nominees.
