PRIDE IN OUR UNIFORM

Two years in and we couldn’t be happier with the new Matravers uniform. The pride that the students demonstrate in their overall appearance is evident to all. Our community has noticed and regularly coments on how smart our students look. Thank you to all parents and guardians that have supported us in making the transition as smooth as possible. As the year has progressed there has been some “wear and tear”.

We know that you will be purchasing uniform and readying students for September and therefore we would like to remind you of the following points.

BEWARE THE “SCHOOL READY” LABEL!

Please be advised that retailers do not consult our uniform policy when selling you their clothes.

Here is a list of tips to avoid your child being challenged when they return in September and you having to purchase more uniform.

Skirts – must be knee length and not tight to the leg.

Trousers- they must be plain and standard cut, not skinny and must not be denim. A quick check is to make sure they come away at the ankle.

Shirts – check the length to ensure they remain tucked in while sitting down.

Shoes – simple! Formal shoes and all black – no trainers, canvas material, high heels or boots. There should be no logos.

PREPARING FOR SCHOOL HAIR

Over the summer if your child wishes to experiment with hair colours or styles, please remember that for school it must be a natural colour and not be an extreme style. This includes any patterns shaved into it, undercuts and any length shorter than a grade two.

PIERCINGS

The school will not accept any piercings other than one in each ear. Nose, eyebrow and tongue piercings can be a health hazard, as can any sleepers/spacers. They are not allowed.

MAKE UP

Years 7 and 8 are not permitted to wear any, while Year 9 and above can wear discrete and subtle makeup. This means that it shouldn’t be noticed if it is discrete. We operate a “double-take” rule; if a student’s make up catches attention then it isn’t discrete. Examples would also be: excessive foundation, lipstick/gloss, bronzer, eye shadow/liner, nail varnish, fake nails or “HD” eyebrows. Progress leaders are armed with make up wipes and students will be expected to remove it.

TIES

Although clip on ties are available we believe that learning to tie a tie is a great life skill to have! Ties should firmly tied up to the top button with a sensible sized knot.
