EEEGR flagship SNS

With new features for SNS2015, including a ‘Meet the Buyer’ session and a ‘Skills Zone’ as well as the regular adjoining exhibition, delegates made the most of the opportunities available.

TWO DAY EVENT

More than 500 delegates and 70 exhibitors attended the two-day event, that attracted top level speakers from offshore wind, oil & gas companies and government departments, who spelt out positive predictions for the future of the energy industry in the East of England and business opportunities for the supply chain.

SNS2015 – SUPPLY CHAIN OPPORTUNITIES FOR WORLD’S LARGEST WIND FARM

Opportunities for Norfolk and Suffolk companies to secure business with developers of the world’s largest wind farm was the lead attraction at the recent SNS conference and exhibition.

EAST ANGLIA ONE

Jonathan Cole, Managing Director of Scottish Power Renewables, said the procurement process for the £2bn 714 MW East Anglia One would begin after contracts were signed.

His company would “run very fast” towards the project – which would be the first of many more wind farms off the east of England coast, he said. “We will be making massive decisions in the next few months.”

One announcement eagerly awaited will be the decision on which port will be used during construction and afterwards for operations and maintenance.

PORT DECISION “We are very close to making a decision on which port will be used.” Jonathan told the audience of energy industry professionals at the conference.

East Anglia One’s competitive bid

demonstrated that the

price of offshore wind power was coming down and the farm – due to start producing electricity in 2019 – would be the catalyst for six other projects waiting to follow East Anglia One.

COST REDUCTION Jonathan continued: “What we showed recently with our successful bid in the auction is that the costs of energy from offshore wind is coming down much faster than anyone expected in the industry.

“We are well and truly on track for costing £100 per MW by 2020 and looking at the potential we can go beyond that and can go somewhere around £90 by 2023.” Contracts for East Anglia One would be signed soon and then the procurement process would begin. Onshore construction starts in 2017, offshore in 2018 and the first electricity generated in 2019.
