TRAINING Inspire

DEFINITION: Inspire: (adjective) – ‘imbued with the spirit to do something, influence or animate with an idea or purpose…’

Seems an apt introduction as we are delighted HFR Solutions are the Sponsors for the Training Section within our popular East of England Spotlight feature…

…and so it was – the formation in 2012 of HFR Solutions CIC (Community Interest Company) – ‘inspired’ by an idea of the Chief Fire Officer of Humberside Fire and Rescue Service. Run as a Community Interest Company or as its more commonly known Social Enterprise it would seem that this company based in Hull and covering Lincolnshire, has a sound commercial prowess matched with a social conscience too.

I caught up (literally) with Stu Axcell, Account Manager for Renewables of this innovative and forward-thinking company for a behind-the-scenes peek!

UNIQUENESS

HFR Solutions have a unique selling point which offers their honed knowledge gleaned within the Humberside Fire and Rescue Service and imparts this expertise to the commercial sector. All profits are then regenerated into the community, beit as grants or sponsorships or other very worthwhile causes - a true ‘win-win’ scenario – of which we will discuss further in the next paragraphs!

Undertaking all aspects of safety intervention and risk assessments and emergency training, as well as situation analysis to create bespoke packages, they are able to offer a wide range of

• Fire – Workplace • Renewable Induction Training • Offshore Medical • Working at Height (within renewable energy industry)

• Confined Space • Health & Safety • First Aid • Emergency Preparation • Hazardous Material Spills • Safety Marshalling • Teambuilding

sectors their expertise from aviation; marine to private and of course the renewable sector, of which we will concentrate on predominantly. Just as an ‘amuse bouche’ they offer the following courses.

SECTION SPONSOR

FONT OF KNOWLEDGE Stu is a font of all knowledge (and unwavering modesty) having been a Firefighter, Crew Manager and Watch Manager on the front line, serving at one of the busiest stations, dealing with emergency situations, leading teams within the capacity as a BA (breathing apparatus), RTC (road traffic collision) advisor and trauma care instructor training and leading operational fire fighters on a daily basis both within the aviation industry and also marine rescue.

Stu now provides the Emergency Planning for a market leading energy supplier within the renewable sector, whereupon he advises on emergency preparedness, all HSE aspects; assessing the needs of those personnel working on the offshore wind farms and the appropriate training requirements, including training for emergency situations such as fires, injuries or illness in the field.

He goes on to say that more and more wind farms are being located further offshore and as a result the associated risks have to be dealt with appropriately ie; marine responders - thus it is imperative to have those within the industry competent and safe within these circumstances.

FACILITIES

These courses are undertaken within dedicated training facilities; purpose build state-of-the-art dual classroom, whereupon courses may be delivered in one room, cinema and speeches in the other. Top notch welfare facilities; bespoke lockers and brand new shower facilities for ‘dirty working’ – all tailored for the courses delivered.

BESPOKE WORKING AT HEIGHT TOWER I should mention at this juncture that HFR Solutions have constructed e bespoke working at height tower to satisfy the needs of ‘working at height’ training, which complies with the 15 metre drop requirements.

Not only do they have state-of-the-art premises but have the matching software to boot! Notably spacial reality! He goes on to say that within their facilities they have the ability to animate a client’s surroundings by photographing (with clients’ permission) their building. These images can then be annotated, animated and in turn can be created into a test-plan using these resources. This then enables
