Providing offshore weather forecasting services at Westermost Rough wind farm

MeteoGroup has been selected to deliver a suite of innovative weather forecasting services to support O&M at DONG Energy’s latest wind farm project at Westermost Rough off the east coast of England. The service provides a mixture of high performance site specific forecasting, customised access to MeteoGroup’s sophisticated new web portal, lightning consultancy and 24/7 access to a marine forecaster.

TAILORED SERVICE

The framework of services provided by MeteoGroup has been carefully tailored to deliver real-time conditions and detailed site specific forecasts 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The highly detailed forecasts are complemented by a suite of interactive decision support tools which enable operational controllers to easily customise weather thresholds and set alerts according to weather limits associated with different operations.

REAL-TIME MONITORING Real-time weather monitoring tools such as high resolution weather radar and lightning detection are also provided, whilst an expert MeteoGroup duty forecaster is available 24/7 to assist with weather critical decisions.

REDUCING OPERATIONAL COSTS By equipping operational controllers with high quality weather intelligence, site planning activities can be streamlined to schedule work within available weather windows and avoid hazardous conditions. Ultimately this helps to reduce operational costs whilst at the same time minimising exposure to weather related risks to personnel and assets.

MeteoGroup currently provide offshore wind farm forecasting services to 45 international sites.

WIND FARM CAPACITY The Westermost Rough wind farm development is in its final stages of being constructed and will be fully operational later this year. When fully operational the east coast site will provide a nameplate generation capacity of 210MW through 35 Siemens 6 MW units.
