DHX Media acquires Ragdoll Worldwide
DHX Media has announced its acquisition of Ragdoll Worldwide from BBC Worldwide, and a group including the founder of Ragdoll, Anne Wood, for £17.4m. The purchase is to be funded from a CAD $25m expansion of DHX Media’s current debt facility and the balance from cash reserves, including its revolving line of credit. DHX Media expects the transaction to be accretive to net earnings per share for fi scal 2014. Under the agreement, DHX Media obtains 12 series, including The Adventures of Abney & Teal, Dipdap and Brum, in addition to 365 episodes of Teletubbies, 52 episodes of Teletubbies Everywhere and 100 episodes of In the Night Garden. Ragdoll Worldwide’s fl agship properties, Teletubbies and In the Night Garden, have achieved
signifi cant commercial success since inception through strong broadcast and licensing programs. Teletubbies has aired in over 120 countries and its enduring resonance with children is further underscored by the fact that its top fi ve postings on YouTube have garnered a cumulative 286,000,000 views.
Golden Bear named Master Toy for Henry Hugglemonster
Golden Bear has announced that the company has been granted the Master Toy licence for the new pre-school property Henry Hugglemonster from The Walt Disney Company. The fi rst products based on the series will be available from Spring 2014. Based on the award-winning
children’s book I’m a Happy Hugglewug, created by Ireland’s Children’s Laureate Niamh Sharkey, the series has already been viewed by a quarter of all kids aged 4-9 in the UK. Recent episodes have attracted average ratings of 123,800 individuals aged four years plus, whilst the Henry Hugglemonster microsite receives over 117,000 monthly unique visitors over a quarterly average.
