Warner Bros. Consumer Products will preview opportunities for the next two films of The Hobbit Trilogy – The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (December 2013) and The Hobbit: There and Back Again (December 2014). Also joining the theatrical line-up is Godzilla (May 2014). The hit comedy series The Big Bang Theory leads the television licensing portfolio, whilst The Wizard of Oz celebrates its 75th Anniversary in 2014. Classic properties including Looney Tunes, DC Comics and Harry Potter also continue to perform well.


Over 40 licensees have signed up to Zodiak’s Tickety Toc licensing programme. Product is about to launch in major markets including the UK, US, Canada and Australia across key categories including toys, publishing, DVD and apparel. In the UK, master toy partner Vivid Imaginations will be launching a range of toys in July, whilst titles from master publishing partner Igloo Books hit shelves in June. Apparel and DVD (Anchor Bay) follow this Autumn. Tickety Toc remains one of the highest rated shows on Nick Jr. in the UK.


Studio 100 will continue to drive the international roll-out of its three global brands: Maya the Bee, Vic the Vicking and Heidi. Maya the Bee is the flagship brand for Studio 100, particularly since the recent launch of the new CGI animated series which broadcasts in 125 countries globally. The brand now has more than 300 international licensees, with product launches across all categories planned for later this year in a number of key territories. Super Mega Hyper Pets is a new pre-school property


for Studio 100 which will be unveiled at this year’s Expo. The property is an action-packed pre-school series following the adventures of Earth’s four newest superheroes.


Technicolor will present a new children’s property, The Deep, which is based on the graphic novel series created by writer Tom Taylor (Star Wars: Blood

Ties, Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight) and illustrator James Brouwer (Justice League Beyond). The new television series, currently in development, follows a family of adventurers who explore unchartered areas of the earth’s oceans, seeking to unravel the mysteries of the deep sea.


Evolution is working on a licensing programme for Monster In My Pocket, a brand of collectable monsters for boys which enjoyed success in the 1990s. The new development will be supported by a soon-to-be- named master toy partner and an animated television series, which is due to debut in 2014.


Carte Blanche will continue to focus on the various brands within the Tatty Teddy Blue Nose portfolio, including nursery brand Tiny Tatty Teddy; Tatty Teddy & My Blue Nose Friends (aimed at girls aged eight and under) and classic brand Me to You. With brand awareness, a strong back story and international distribution, the company believes Tatty Teddy is a brand which is original with mass appeal.


Fremantle has a growing kids’ portfolio, which now includes Tree Fu Tom, Strange Hill High, Ella the Elephant, Kate & Mim Mim, Wizards Vs Aliens and Grojband.


The Jim Henson Company will introduce the Doozers, a new pre-school CG-animated series which is due to start broadcasting on Cartoonito this Autumn. The series, which consists of 52x11-minute episodes, focuses on the three-inch tall Doozers of Doozer Creek, a high-tech enchanted forest melding nature with innovation. The original Doozers were first introduced to television audiences through the TV series Fraggle Rock, which marks its 30th anniversary this year.


Saban’s Power Rangers franchise is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. The year-long celebration was kicked off earlier this year by the debut of its new series


Sesame Workshop


on Nickelodeon, Power Rangers Megaforce. Saban recently revealed that Digimon Fusion will also air on Nickelodeon this year, whilst Julius Jr., a new animated pre-school series inspired by the Paul Frank family of characters, will shortly debut this year on Nick Jr. in the US. Saban Brands has entered into a strategic partnership with Fisher Price who will serve as the global master toy licensee for Julius Jr.


HIT Entertainment will be focusing on Thomas & Friends, Mike the Knight, and Fireman Sam, for which a brand new CGI series of 24x10-minute episodes will shortly be rolled out. A feature-length Fireman Sam special has also been given the green light.


Sesame Workshop continues its global partnership with Hasbro. New introductions for 2013 include Big Hugs Elmo, which can hug kids back, and the Sesame Street Roads & Rails collection, which includes three vehicle themed playsets featuring Elmo, Ernie or Cookie Monster. February marked a rare achievement for the brand: Sesame Street exceeded 1b views on YouTube, making it the first non-profit organisation and the first children’s programme to reach the milestone.


Led by master toy partner Mattel, DreamWorks’ next franchise, Turbo, arrives in theatres this Summer. New movies for 2014 include Mr. Peabody & Sherman, How to Train Your Dragon 2 and Happy Smekday! (working title), whilst B.O.O.: Bureau of Otherworldly Operations and Trolls, is slated for future release.


Licensing agent Copyrights reports that momentum is building ahead of the new Paddington film, scheduled to launch in 2014. New partners on board including Hewlett Packard for printable colouring and activity sheets and Lansay as master toy partner for France. After a successful launch in the UK last year, The Snowman and the Snowdog TV special will be broadcast across the globe this Christmas.
