representative at John Adams, said that she was “completely overwhelmed” and that the award was unexpected. Games industry veteran Bernard Smith, formerly of Spears now University Games, said he was honoured and surprised by the award and that he “didn’t have a clue it was going to happen.” Inaugurated in May 2001, the Golden Teddy Awards were created to reward worthy individuals from all levels of the toy industry, whose individual contribution and dedication over the years deserves public recognition. Golden Teddies are awarded to candidates who have served the industry for over 15
years. They are designed to recognise ordinary people with extraordinary talents, who go over and above expectations and who are the industry’s genuinely good ‘guys’. The winners are announced and presented by the BTHA at special events up to three times a year.

Platinum Films’ CEO has announced the appointment of Carl England as the company’s managing director. England joins Platinum Films from his previous position as head of international licensing at Jakks Pacific. He previously held senior licensing roles at Disney, Timberland and Canterbury. In his new role, England will lead the international licensing and merchandising roll-out of Matt Hatter Chronicles, managing a global network of licensing agents and executing a multi-territory cross-platform product launch in 2014.

Mattel UK has announced the appointment of Michael Hick as sales director for the UK and Ireland. Michael joined Mattel in 2008 having previously worked at Mega Brands
UK and Lego UK in a number of sales and marketing roles. He joined Mattel as a senior national account manager on the Argos and Tesco business where he made an immediate impact. Michael was subsequently promoted to the position of general sales manager grocery and under his leadership the business has doubled in the last three years.

has been promoted to key account manager, and that his former position has been filled by Kim Chenery. Kim was previously a sales representative for Seven Seas. The changes to the team come after Keith Frost retired from his role as field sales and key accounts manager earlier this year, after five years at Playmobil.
Good Toy Guide has appointed Lorna Hill to deal with website advertising and promotions, as well as business development.
