The University of Northampton is an award-winning University committed to providing you with a first class student experience.
By ‘student experience’ we mean the whole package - superb teaching and learning, diverse sporting opportunities, an excellent social scene and diverse range of societies and clubs.
We are delighted to have been shortlisted for the prestigious Times Higher Education Award for Most Improved Student Experience for 2010-11 and we intend to keep improving by working with you, our students, and with the Students’ Union.
Another focus for the year ahead is the internationalisation of our University. This isn’t just about attracting more international students. It’s also about our students being able to secure top international placements and exchanges. We are proud to be an outward-facing University that makes a mark not just on the local community but regionally, nationally and internationally.
Both our campuses have benefited from massive investment, resulting in first class facilities and services which have never been better. As well as our new-look School of Education and newly-expanded Northampton Business School, we have a new home for our School of Science and Technology, which is now based in the stunning, state-of-the-art £11million Newton building on Avenue Campus.
At the heart of our new facilities are creative, inspiring learning spaces - break out areas with sofas and all the IT you could need in a vibrant, exciting environment.
Northampton is a wonderful place to study and even more so since the town’s waterfront was unveiled as one of only 22 National Enterprise Zones. This will mean additional development funding and investment to create opportunities for our students, with more potential for part-time work placements as new firms move into the zone with local companies increasingly looking for graduate level expertise.
It is now my second year as Vice Chancellor of The University of Northampton and it’s fair to say that it is a challenging time for the whole of Higher Education, which is changing dramatically in front of our eyes. The next few years will be crucial for all universities, but with the challenges come a host of exciting opportunities and we are looking forward to it all.
Transforming lives and inspiring change is our mission statement and this is at the heart of everything we do. Come and see us for yourselves.
