Social Enterprise
At The University of Northampton we are committed to becoming the UK’s number one university for social enterprise by 2015.
Social enterprises are businesses with a social purpose which use business tools and techniques to achieve social aims.
Our aim is to improve the economic, social and cultural life of our region and of the UK as a whole by embedding social enterprise into our teaching, learning and research.
We offer all our degree students the chance to work in a social enterprise as part of their course.
By getting involved with a social enterprise many of you will be able to earn money, to reduce the costs of your investment in your education and help increase your employability.
As well as leaving us with a degree, you will also benefit from hands-on, practical experience.
Our Podiatry, Occupational Therapy and Events Management degree programmes are all developing new social enterprises which enable students to earn money while they work and learn.
Bag in Bag
The Bag in Bag is an in-bag organiser designed to keep belongings together within a handbag or shoulder bag.
Students manage the business as shareholding directors. They create case study information relevant for their enterprise assignments and also earn an income whilst they are at university.
Floom – Make Do and Mend
Floom produces handmade up-cycled goods including quilts, bags and laptop sleeves created from old items sourced from charity shops, recycling outlets or donations. It aims to reduce waste, promote up-cycling, raise awareness of landfill waste and encourage recycling.
Tap the Table Theatre
Tap the Table Theatre is a social enterprise which performs to schools and charities and takes theatre workshops into the community, all designed to motivate and educate. One of the group’s main aims is to provide as diverse a range of theatre as possible to communities that have limited access to the arts.
Coco Careers
