UV-Curable Inkjet Printer

Agfa’s :Anapurna M 2050 uses new

flexible G2 UV inks, allowing fin- ished output to be cut or creased with- out flaking or cracking, extending the design options available for output.

Automated Print Production Solution

Agfa Graphics (Booths 844, 2611) is demonstrating its :Anapurna M 2050, a high-speed, 6-color plus white, UV- curable inkjet printer. Productivity is achieved using 8 print-heads, 8,192 noz- zles, and the ability to print in both uni- and bi-directional modes. With a maxi- mum resolution of 1440dpi, it accom- modates rigid materials to 6.5x9.5' and rolls to 6.5' wide and is optimized at 247-sq.ft./hour for print output. A standard 4-zone vacuum table offers additional strength for controlling sub- strates varying in size and thickness up to 1.77". Operator controls include a built- in, touchscreen and an AgfaRIP engine. Standard operating features include reg- istration bars, anti-static bars, shuttle safety sensors, ionizer bars on the car- riage, automatic head height adjustment, and a refined vacuum power control.

Components demonstrated include an end-to-end workflow featuring the col- lection of specifications on a custom- er-facing website or a browser-based sales tool; the automated development of production layouts without the need for templates; the dynamic development of an optimized schedule and run-list based on delivery priorities and produc- tion characteristics; the seamless flow of information (leveraging JDF) from the MIS to prepress software and produc- tion equipment; and the real-time col- lection of status, costing, and scheduling updates via Direct Machine Interface.

Three-Knife Trimmer

EFI (Booth 2000) is highlighting EFI Monarch, an automated print produc- tion and management solution for large, single and multi-plant operations. Scal- able to 5,000 users with multi-language and multi-currency capabilities, Mon- arch offers a high degree of functionality for the management of all work types. The core system includes advanced job management, intelligent production planning, and JDF-certified integration with many pre-press, press and finish- ing equipment.

Muller Martini (Booth 637) is dem- onstrating the latest addition to its fam-

ily of three-knife trimmers, designed for perfect-bound book manufacturers looking to lower expenses while still achieving a high-quality product. Suit- ed for the mid-to-high performance range, the Orbit three-knife trimmer features full automation and the abil- ity to trim up to 80 mm at 7,200 cph. Settings can be optimized on the fly, as the machine is running, so that the required quality and productivity can be achieved in the shortest pos- sible time. The Orbit does complete changeovers in only three minutes. Its intuitive controls allow the operator to quickly prepare for the next job while the current job is still running. With a highly durable, single-cast design, the Orbit tackles even the most stringent quality demands. SmartPress, its proprietary, servo-drive technology, provides for a gentle, controlled press- ing process in which air between the paper fully escapes from the product. This results in the optimal precondi- tion for perfect trim and ultimately pre- vents costly line stoppages. The Orbit’s transport, pressing and cutting units are driven independently of each other. This helps assure the optimal trimming speed regardless of the machine’s cycle time.
