Web-To-Finish Workflow System
Xerox (Booth 400, 600) is debut-
ing its iGen4 EXP web-to-finish auto- mated workflow system, an update to the iGen4 platform. This product gives users an immediate productivity spike with new job submission and finishing capabilities, integration with Adobe’s PDF Print Engine, and the industry’s largest sheet size. The iGen4 EXP’s 14.33x26" sheet size is the most effi- cient choice for producing multi-up jobs, such as full-size tri-fold bro- chures, postcards and greeting cards, or extra large book covers and jackets. The iGen4 EXP prints 26"-sheets at 40 ppm enabling a speed of 120 8.5x11" impressions per minute. The automated web-to-finish product solution makes a touchless workflow achievable and integration with Adobe PDF Print Engine drives reliable print- ing of native Adobe PDF files. Feeding and finishing capabilities include the Lasermax Roll Systems SheetFeeder iG and Multigraf stacker.
Color Management Toolset EskoArtwork (Booth 217) is exhibit-
ing Esko Color Engine, a toolset that delivers color management across the packaging and print supply chain. At the heart of the Color Engine is a cen- tral color database. The Color Engine Pilot is a toolset for creating and main- taining brand colors, creation of spot color profiles, and other color conver- sion settings. The Color Engine uses spectral color information to retain true color independence. It is pos- sible to manage color for every device within packaging and print production, including monitors, proofers, press, digital press—and convert between different color spaces: RGB, CMYK, spot, or multicolor. Ink Refinement provides control for spot colors, accurately controlling or adding percentages of a spot color. Ink Refinement can also be used in a proof- ing workflow to match spot colors.
Inkjet Digital Press Kodak (Booth 1227) is debuting its
Kodak Prosper 5000XL press feature- ing Kodak Stream Inkjet Technology. The Prosper 5000XL press allows
GMG Americas (Booth 644) is introducing GMG ColorProof and
users to produce offset class output in terms of quality, productivity, and cost for their clients, while offering the ability to print permanently on glossy coated papers. With Stream Inkjet Technology, speed and accurate drop placement are ensured using a continuous flow of ink through inkjet nozzles at a high volume. Stream Inkjet Technology uses air deflection and silicon nozzles to deliver uniform ink droplet size and accurate droplet placement with a drop generation speed over 400KHz, producing image quality approaching up to 175 line screen (lpi) at speeds up to 650 feet per minute in a process color environment.
Spot UV Coating
MGI Digital Graphic Technology (Booth 3217) is featuring its JET- varnish digital inkjet spot UV coater. The digital coater’s operation requires no makeready; only a layer or mask needs to be applied to the document in desktop publishing software, the file processed through the front-end sys- tem, and then sent to the coating unit. An optional RIP allows for full per- sonalization through the JETvarnish’s integrated variable-data capabilities, so each sheet can have unique text, bar codes, graphics, and other custom options.
The JETvarnish uses MGI’s DOD piezo inkjet technology, which ensures precise registration on all sheets and line widths as small as 1/144". Accom- modating sheet sizes up to 20x40" and speeds of up to 0.5 meters per sec- ond, the JETvarnish is ideal for mid- to-large commercial operations using offset and/or digital presses. It has multi-substrate capabilities, handling paper and plastics (coated) from 50-lb. to 220-lb. cover. New features include left and right guides allowing for alignment to offset gripper marks on either side of the sheet, and the option to add a second print line to be used with either a single ink color or a second varnish formula.
Proofing Software
GMG FlexoProof, 2 proofing software products that allow printers to create color-accurate proofs directly on the substrate they will be printed on. For commercial printers, almost true ‘press proofs’ can be printed on the final stock. For converters, color accurate prototypes with exact screening and simulated misregistration can be built on the correct substrate.
GMG is also featuring its direct driv- er for the Roland VersaUV LEC-330, an inkjet printer that prints with two extra units (varnishes or white). GMG ColorProof or GMG FlexoProof can print directly to the printer rather than sending a file to the printer’s RIP. GMG ColorProof provide an accurate way of calibrating digital inkjet proofing engines to produce digital contract color proofs precisely matched to the printing process. GMG FlexoProof is designed for digital proofing of flexographic jobs. FlexoProof includes GMG Spot- Color editor, unlimited spot color data- bases, and multiple Pantone Libraries.
Miniature Verifica- tion Camera
Color Printer Xerox (Booth 400, 600) is introduc-
ing its new Xerox Color 550/560 printer that produces color and black-and-white documents for
traditional marketing
collateral, photo applications, office documents, and presentations. The new printer features a color touch screen and prints at 50/55 ppm and 60/65 ppm in color and black and white. It is equipped with a low-melt emul- sion aggregation (EA) toner and 2,400 x 2,400-dpi printing. Inline finishing options include stapling, hole-punching, folding and booklet-making on uncoat- ed and coated media. The device also includes advanced color management tools and streamlined production with Xerox FreeFlow, EFI or Creo print serv- ers. The Color 550/560 also scans, cop- ies and faxes at high speed, both color and black-and-white and keeps intellec- tual property organized and secure, with automated routing and delivery.
Metal Platemaking Solution
Inspectron (Booth 4816) is offering
a new miniature verification camera with an integrated light source, 640 x 480 resolution, frame rate of 60 FPS and a 6mm micro lens. This camera is designed to fit into small places within manufacturing lines. The cam- era hooks up to a standard windows PC through standard firewire (IEEE- 1394) and comes with a PCI firewire card and 15 foot firewire cable. There are no special cables required and replacement cables are off the shelf items. The Mini-Cam is controlled by Inspectron’s DocuCheck software that is installed on a standard Windows PC. DocuCheck is a full software suite that allows for reading of a multitude of symbologies such as 1D bar codes, OCR (Optical Character Recognition), DataMatrix, IMB (Intelligent Mailing Barcode), PDF-417, Inkjet void and streak detection, grayscale (light/dark) print inspection. DocuCheck also pro- vides the ability to set up custom logic and output control based on the result of reading. Some examples are match- ing, sequence and duplicate checking, read and print control, and IMB (Intel- ligent Mailing Barcode) validation.
Presstek Co. (Booth 2600) is show- casing the Vector FL52, which features an integrated plate washer and uses Presstek’s chemistry-free Freedom Pro plates. The Vector offers the small- format (52cm and under) printer a met- al platemaking solution that provides higher productivity, a cleaner opera- tion, and a lower overall operating cost than any other metal platemaking solu- tion on the market, reports Presstek.
Desktop Printer Epson
America (Booth 617)
is unveiling the Stylus Pro 4900, a 17-inch desktop printer leveraging the technology featured in the 24-inch Epson Stylus Pro 7900 and 44-inch Epson Stylus Pro 9900.
