Globetrotting Get Physical artist and co-founder of Phonica Records, Radio 1’s Heidi gives us the inside skinny on her summer smashes…

“I
t’s true to what I play,” explains Heidi, the Canadian-born, Berlin- based DJ of her In New DJs We Trust Radio 1 show when we catch her by the pool of Ibiza’s appropriately named Gran Hotel. “I take what I play from the club to the radio, then boom.”
Originally signed up for just six shows, it’s testament to her easy-going affability and a well-trained nose for sniffing out the best underground house and techno that she’s still there after almost two years, uncompromisingly championing friends like Seth Troxler and Wolf + Lamb to a mainstream audience.
This summer sees her fitting Ibiza into a packed tour schedule four times, touching down on 4th
July and 1st August at We Love... Space, 1st September at
Warung, Privilege, and again at Zoo Project, date still to be confirmed. “The second We Love... party is with Jesse Rose playing back to back,” she adds excitedly. “Last summer we did it once and it was killer. We play a lot together in Berlin so we read each other’s minds totally. It gets freaky!”
Add to this three gigs at Sonar, including the Beatport and Get Physical parties, and her own Jackathon night which is touring Europe and it’s a wonder she’s always so fresh and energetic. “It’s good genes,” Heidi laughs. “My mum’s Dutch and my dad’s Italian. It’s the Dutch skin. “Trust me,” she adds of her forthcoming Grial gig that night, “you’ll see me tomorrow and you’ll be, girl, you ain’t looking so good right now!”

pincho lo saco del club y lo meto directamente en la radio, y hace boom”.
Originalmente fue fichada para seis programas, pero su afabilidad y buen olfato por la mejor música house y techno underground son lo que le hacen seguir allí después de casi dos años, apoyando sin compromiso algunos colegas como Seth Troxler y Wolf + Lamb ante una audiencia principalmente comercial. Este verano la ve visitar Ibiza cuatro veces entre una agenda de gira muy llena, aterrizando el 4 de julio y 1 de agosto para We Love… Space, el 1 de septiembre para Warung en Privilege y una vez más para Zoo Project cuya fecha está aún por confirmar. “La segunda fiesta We Love… es con Jesse Rose pinchando juntos”, añade emocionada. “El verano pasado lo hicimos una vez y fue increíble. Pinchamos mucho juntos en Berlín así que estamos totalmente compenetrados mentalmente. ¡A veces da miedo y todo!”
Añádele a esto tres eventos en el Sonar, incluyendo las fiestas Beatport, Get Physical y su propia noche Jackathon, que está de gira por toda Europa, y es una sorpresa que siempre esté tan fresca y tenga tanta energía. “Son mis buenos genes”, se ríe Heidi. “Mi madre es holandesa y mi padre italiano. Es el lado holandés. “Créeme”, añade de su próximo evento en Grial esa noche, “me verás mañana y dirás, chica, hoy no tienes tan buen aspecto!”

Anthea and Alex Celler ‘Mandara’ Cecille “I’m totally into this new EP from Anthea and Alex. They have a way of producing grooves that consume you on the dancefloor. ‘Mandara’ is a proper house track with super phat drums that pack a punch. Then it takes a turn halfway through into the old school. If you’re in the club and you don’t take notice of this one, you need to clean your ears out.”
