lo Cura CALLE ANTONIO MARI RIBAS Though decidedly smaller than the island’s other bars, Lo Cura offers that much-loved intimacy that can only be gained from closely-set walls and a quality selection of tunes feeding reliably through the speakers. Well worth checking out for We Love… resident Dave Phillips’ oft-seen sets alongside a cosy, cool setting.

roCk Bar CALLE GARIJO Also to be found along the bustling port of Ibiza Town is Rock Bar. A more mature offering compared to its closely located counterparts, the bar still maintains a strong name for itself with the clued up island regulars. Regularly packing out its terrace seating and keeping the music policy at Ibiza standard, Rock Bar remains a must-do spot to visit as it’s a perfect location to soak up the chilled out harbour vibes.

soap CALLE ALFONSO XII Set deep in the old town, Soap is now into its sixth season since changing its name from Incognito. Keeping the island’s gay scene dancing with its broad and fine selection of house and techno, the venue offers the more plush bar, Soap Up, alongside its basement rave den Soap Club. With a background of the eye-watering Dalt Vila, Ibiza Town’s own castle, and an endless supply of beautiful, stylish and hard partying music lovers, both Soap bars offer a vibrant alternative to the more chilled out town bars.

Ibiza is extremely well served for watering holes, whether they be lively pre-club bar-type places or the more relaxed, laid-back zone of tranquillity establishments. Here’s our guide to the choicest bars on the island. Chin chin!

Words: JULIA JENNINGS IBIZA TOWN

Base Bar CALLE GARIJO If you wander a little further along Ibiza town’s famous port you’ll find the somewhat legendary Base Bar. Becoming notorious for hosting incredible DJs and the odd celeb whilst also being waited on by some rather eye-pleasing staff, the venue remains one of the island’s most popular additions. Though drinks are a little on the pricey side, it’s worth splashing a bit of cash to enjoy the upbeat, cool Ibizan vibes and top class DJ sets.

Grial AVENIDA DE AGOSTO Since popping up on the Balearic radar not too long ago, Grial has quickly carved a name for itself as one of Ibiza Town’s most exciting prospects. Offering an enviable roster featuring a host of big name DJs and promotions, the bar not only provides the perfect Pacha warm up (being based two doors down) but easily justifies itself as a quality rave patch in its own right. With no door fee, strong drinks and a cool crowd, not to mention the Funktion One soundsystem installed, Grial is well worth a look in 2010.

TaNGo CALLE D’EMILI POU Attracting the beautiful party people of Ibiza Town with ease, this cosmopolitan and upbeat venue offers an energetic and exciting spot on the port’s radar. A past host to the Hed Kandi and Miss Moneypenny’s pre parties in the El Divino days, you’ll still find a healthy smattering of scantily-clad club promoters to keep you entertained throughout the start, middle or end of your bar run.

VeiNTidos CALLE DE LA VIRGEN With a cool ‘70s/Thai themed interior, plenty of furniture to lounge the night away on and some of the tastiest cocktails around, Veintidos bar is one of the quirkier additions to the Ibiza Town roll call. With a more diverse music policy than the oft-found house and techno, a fun and somewhat different atmosphere awaits ravers and provides the perfect backdrop for some mantelpiece-worthy holiday snaps.

Zoo Bar PASSEIG DES MOLL Another candidate for a night out in the bustling port area, Zoo remains one of Ibiza Town’s busiest watering holes. Though offering up a huge terraced area for all-night partying, the bar also boasts an enviable large and stylish inside space, perfect for cooler weather at the beginning and tail end of the season. Its central location and unquestionably vibrant atmosphere continue to keep the crowds coming back for more, and Zoo definitely earns its stripes as an unmissable addition to the pre-club warm-up.

SAN ANTONIO

BN3 SAN ANTONIO BAY Though arguably not the busiest party area of the more English-dominated San Antonio, the bay area offers a few little gems on the party circuit. BN3 holds its own as one of the more popular spots, regularly hosting pre parties for some of the busiest nights at Amnesia, Privilege, Eden and Es Paradis. Offering up a selection of music to compliment its broad endorsement of club nights, you will find everything from house to techno and electro to trance, all bashed out in an intimate, dark interior.

Bay Bar AVENIDA DR FLEMING Open throughout both the day and night with a reasonably priced food and cocktail menu, Bay Bar has become a popular hangout for island regulars and skint workers alike. With a regular run of parties and a broad music policy set against a spacious and chilled out setting overlooking the sea, the Bay Bar is well worth a few hours of your raving plan, either as a pre club warm-up or just to lounge away some time with the friendly crowd and sweet Ibizan beats.

Café MaMBo SUNSET STRIP Needing little introduction due to its legendary status, Café Mambo has hosted some seriously crazy parties over the years. Popular with the wealthier crowd due to the top class DJs that grace the decks daily and the upmarket air, Mambo combines class with accessibility and it’s not unlikely that you’ll see the town’s workers partying alongside some of the industry’s biggest names. Not only offering a perfect location to watch the magical Ibizan sunsets every day and pre parties for nights such as Subliminal Sessions and F**k Me I’m Famous, Mambo also maintains its vibrant atmosphere throughout the entire day,
