First Ibiza experience? “I was there the whole summer of 1986, and all I had to think about was getting to Amnesia each night to hear Alfredo, then party under the stars till sunrise with all the beautiful people.”


What Balearic tune most


sums up the essence of Ibiza’s early days? “There are so many tunes that hold happy memories. One that really stands out from ‘86 was ‘Would I Find Love’ by Dizzi Heights. It makes me think of good times and old friends. When I started playing at Future it was one of my biggest tunes. On my birthday, Paul Oakenfold surprised me by getting Dizzi down to do a PA. It was emotional...”


Favourite new Balearic tune? T-Coy ‘Carino (Soul Mekanik Stage Left Version)’ is one of my all-time favourites, first heard at Amnesia ‘87, remixed and sounding as good as ever. I really like stuff on Par-Tay Recordings and Messalina Recordings, too.”


NANCY NOISE


¿Primera experiencia en Ibiza? “Fue durante todo el verano de 1986, en todo lo que pensaba era en ir a Amnesia todas las noches para escuchar a Alfredo, luego bailar bajo las estrellas hasta el amanecer con toda la gente guapa”.


¿Qué tema baleárico resume mejor la esencia de Ibiza de sus primeros días? “Hay tantos temas que guardan recuerdos felices. Uno que resalta es ‘Would I Find Love’ de Dizzi Heights del 86. Me hace pensar en los buenos tiempos y en los viejos amigos. Cuando empecé a pinchar en Future era uno de mis grandes temas. En mi cumpleaños, Paul Oakenfold me sorprendió consiguiendo que Dizzi actuara en vivo. Fue muy emotivo…”.


¿Nuevo tema baleárico favorito? “‘Carino (soul Mekanik Stage Left Version)’ de T-Coy es uno de mis favoritos de todos los tiempos, primero lo escuché en Amnesia en el 87, remezclado y sonando mejor que nunca. Realmente me gustan las producciones de Par-Tay Recordings y Messalina Redordins”.


PhIL MISON


First Ibiza experience? “My first trip was in 1980 when I visited Es Cane with a young kleptomaniac girlfriend. She believed everything was free in her path.”


What Balearic tune most sums up the essence of Ibiza’s early days? “‘Moments In Love’ by Art Of Noise brings up vivid memories of the early Cafe Del Mar, putting a smile on my face, and Elkin & Nelson’s ‘Jibaro’. The energy of that track in the open air clubs was amazing, very distinctive with a gypsy vibe.”


Favourite new Balearic tune? “The new Cantoma album perfectly reflects the true spirit of Balearic music and Plej’s music from the Swedish left coast is perfect Ibiza sunset vibes.”


¿Primera experiencia en Ibiza? “Mi primer viaje fue en 1980 cuando visité Es Canar con mi joven novia cleptómana. Se creía que todo en su camino era gratis”.


¿Qué tema baleárico resume la esencia de Ibiza de los primeros días? “’Moments In Love’ de Art Of Noise me trae vívidos recuerdos de los primeros días de Café del Mar, me pone la sonrisa en el rostro, y ‘Jibaro’ de Elkin & Nelson. La energía de ese tema en discotecas al aire libre era increíble, muy distintivo con un ambiente gitano”.


¿Nuevo tema baleárico favorito? “El nuevo álbum de Cantoma perfectamente refleja el verdadero espíritu de la música baleárica y la música de Plej de Suecia es perfecta para las puestas de Ibiza”.

First Ibiza experience? “I didn’t go to Ibiza until ’91. My friends had been going for three years; I just didn’t seem to get around to it until then. There were about 10


of us that went. We were met at the airport and dropped off at our rooms in La Marina, and then we went directly to Pacha to listen to Alfredo. Walking in there for the first time was fantastic.”


What Balearic tune most sums up the essence of Ibiza’s early days? “I suppose the real essence of the Balearic Ibiza sound was anything played between 86-89 by Alfredo at Amnesia. The track that most reminds me of my first trip is Marvin Gaye’s ‘A Funky Space Reincarnation’.”


Favourite new Balearic tune? “I don’t know how you define Balearic now, really. I really like the new Superimposers album, though.”


¿Primera experiencia en Ibiza? “No fui hasta el 91. Mis amigos llevaban yendo tres años; parece que a mí no me interesó hasta mucho después. Fuimos unos diez amigos. Nos recogieron en el aeropuerto y nos dejaron en nuestras habitaciones en La Marina, y luego fuimos directamente a Pacha a escuchar a Alfredo. Entrar ahí por primera vez fue fantástico”.


¿Qué tema baleárico resume mejor la esencia de Ibiza en sus primeros días? “Supongo que la verdadera esencia del sonido baléarico de Ibiza era cualquier cosa que Alfredo pinchara entre 86-89 en Amnesia. El tema que más me recuerda a mi primer viaje es ‘A Funky Space Reincarnation’ de Marvin Gaye”.


¿Nuevo tema baleárico favorito? “No sé cómo defines baleárico ahora, realmente. Aunque me gusta mucho el nuevo álbum de Superimposers”.

First Ibiza experience? “1990 was the first year. It was a revelation. I partied for days.”


What Balearic tune most sums up the essence of Ibiza’s early days? “‘Hell Or Heaven’ by L.U.P.O. It represents the craziness and freedom of Ibiza, which doesn’t really exist as much now.”

Favourite new Balearic tune? “‘Casidos’ by Eduardo Castillas. It’s brilliant. Me and Phil Mison both played it today at Balearic Mystique.”
