Tone it! It isn’t the lightener that gives the colour – it’s the tone in the product or
a separate toner that gives you the colour. Remember that lightening kicks up warmth, so don’t be afraid of ash or matt-toned blondes – they work brilliantly.
Be visual when it comes to consultation. Sometimes you can get a lighter blonde
feel with a small amount of colour, sometimes you need to go for a full head.Use swatch cards and look books to work out what best suits the client’s need.
Check clients’ colour commitment. For example, if they’re not prepared to get
their roots done regularly, you certainly don’t want to give them a full head colour!
To keep the colour truer and make the next application much easier,
recommend clients to use the correct aftercare products – either care products to protect hair condition or products with brighteners to enhance the blonde.
Know your start point! Check out your client’s natural hair colour before you
begin. This will help you decide what product to choose to get the lift you need.
Healthy hair gives better colour results; the better the condition the better the
colour retention.Check hair condition before you begin and never lighten it if you’re not confident hair will stay in good condition.
Accurate application is key. Don’t overlap colour and beware of creating colour
bands when lightening. Take your time and be accurate; it makes future applications much easier.
