SEBASTIAN PROFESSIONAL

Here, Paul Fensome, Prestige Brands

Education Manager for Sebastian Professional, explains why his brand’s education is leading the way and is anything but mundane.

Paul (centre) and the Sebastian Professional Cult team

Firstly, where did you get started in the industry?

I am a hairdresser, although I don’t do as much hair as I would like to nowadays – I’ll do some of my colleagues’ and my wife’s – but I keep my hand in and am always eager to learn new things and try them out. I have been with the company for 10 years, after starting out as a Wella Technician in the Manchester Studio, and have been in my current role for two years – it has been a great 10 years.

What does your role involve day to day?

My role is quite diverse; I work as part of a strong multi-functional team that each has its own area of expertise, such as marketing, planning, etc.

I have a small education team – that is truly fantastic – which educates in salons and also on the studio courses, and I look after the fantastic Cult team. A lot of my role is about developing education on a local level and also creating new courses, both for in-salon, studio and individual accounts. This includes my team’s input, which is invaluable. Development training is paramount for myself and my team so that we all keep inspired and motivated. Planning is also important within my role when it comes to dates, courses, training and some fantastic Fearless events. The other parts are less exciting; facts, figures, reports and endless meetings!
