Heidi McDonald, salon director, The Lounge:
“Cornwall is a brilliant place to live and go out and have fun. I’m sure a lot of people will only see it as a beachy, beauty spot but Truro has some great bars and clubs. I really like a bar called Vanilla; it’s very cosmo and great fun for a night out, and The Offi ce is probably Cornwall’s best club. We defi nitely have a very natural style here but I think it comes with a touch of glamour. Women like quite big looks with lots of movement and personality but with just that touch of polish which makes it grown-up and a little sophisticated. The big colour choices here are warm shades of blonde and copper and the boys are your typical surfer dudes! Think Vernon Kay before he had the chop – they like to keep their hair loose with a bit of length.”

SHB Hair and Beauty:
“Actually, what a lot of younger girls here are asking for at the moment is perms. I don’t mean those old-fashioned bubble perms but ones that create loose, ringlet curls. Volume and texture is really popular in Cornwall, which works well with the area’s beachy look. By getting a perm it saves them the hassle of constantly blowdrying and curling to achieve that look – it actually makes it quite low maintenance. We have a barber shop attached to the salon and what the boys have been going for recently is a lot of Mohawks and mullets!”
