Who can ‘apply’ to be a Future Creative? Or are they hand-picked?
The opportunity exists for any individual who has already proved themselves a success in the unit in which they are based. Ordinarily an individual will ‘apply’ to join, however, sometimes they may be shy or unaware of their potential.
Do you still find it exciting to be working with new talent?
Working with the Future Creatives is one of the most exciting, rewarding
and inspirational aspects of the Creative Director’s role. Their enthusiasm, energy and desire to succeed is very special. They have a seemingly inexhaustible thirst for knowledge which is a joy to share with them; at Sassoon the philosophy is when you teach, you learn.
Joining Sassoon means…
Everyone is initially attracted to joining Sassoon by the philosophy, ethos and style of work that Sassoon is renowned
for. The high standards and methodology mean that it gives any individual the opportunity to totally immerse themselves in a company whose name is respected and recognised worldwide.
What is the most rewarding part of your role?
There are many aspects to my role which I find immensely rewarding. However, I would say the most rewarding aspect is working with the International Creative Team and Future Creatives.
“I NOW ACTIVELY HELP MOULD THE COMPANY AND HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE AN ENERGY AND PASSION FOR HAIR IN THOSE AROUND ME. I AM DIRECTING THE CAREERS OF THE NEXT GENERATION OF HAIR PROFESSIONALS AND MAINTAINING THE RICH HERITAGE OF SASSOON, WHICH IS A TREMENDOUS OPPORTUNITY AND AN EXCITING CHALLENGE.”
FINALLY, ARE THERE ANY INDIVIDUALSWHOWERE ONCE BUDDING FUTURE CREATIVES YOU THINKWE SHOULD LOOK OUT FOR OVER THE COMING YEARS?
DENI TOLEDO
This 33-year old left his Spanish routes and travelled around Europe before finally joining Sassoon in London seven years ago – and he’s never looked back. “When I first started in hairdressing I went to Germany to study; I attended a Sassoon show in Berlin with the International Creative Team from Sassoon. I was completely fascinated by the work they did, how they dressed so elegantly on stage; there was something so modern about it. That was when I knew I wanted to work for Sassoon,” says Deni. After rising through the ranks as a Future Creative, Deni now holds the position of Creative Director and takes part in creating collections, inspiring the next generation of Future Creatives and much more.
OSCAR PETO
After completing an English degree at university, Oscar started his hairdressing training at 21 by joining the Sassoon Academy Beginners Diploma course. “I was having my hair cut and talking about my interest in becoming a hairdresser, when my stylist recommended that the only course to take was Sassoon,” says Oscar. Now 26, the man who admits he loves karaoke, holds the position of Assistant Colour Director of Staff Training where he has the responsibility for completing the final stages of the assistants programme. He is also an integral member of the show team, which sees him travelling the world and passing on his knowledge. “I’ve been to some amazing places like Japan and Italy and have done some incredible things that I would never have thought possible.”
PARIS FRANCE
Paris (actually christened Marie France) started her hairdressing career at 16. Having always dreamt of becoming a hairdresser, Paris says: “It was my mum who said ‘if you’re going to do hair you have to go to Sassoon’ and, well, mother knows best!” Now 25, Paris is Creative Director of
Staff Training and loving every minute. “Being in charge of our ‘finishing school’ is such a tremendously rewarding experience. Having the opportunity to see new people complete their training inspires me in so many ways,” she says. “It’s not just hair training, it’s more like life training. Sassoon really is a big family. There are so many different people – it’s such an interesting team to be part of.” Paris also spends time in the salon as she enjoys the connection with her clients.
