REMEMBERING A LEGEND

A memorial website is being launched on the first anniversary of the death of one of hairdressing’s most inspirational people. Tragically, Guy Mascolo died suddenly of a heart attack on

May 6 last year, the date of which lends itself to the name of the website. Now his dear friend David Montague has founded the website

alongside Guy’s widow Flora Mascolo, to encourage people to make a donation to a charity of their choice on May 6. Flora says, “We don’t want to know if you do, or know the

amount. All the website hopes to do is sustain the spirit and the qualities of a man who loved and helped so many.”

GOOD’S NOT ENOUGH

BE Fantastic was Alan Austin-Smith’s motto at a one-off business-boosting event packed with tales of snogging, break-dancing babies and head- spinning exercises!

Top industry names including Men’s Hairdresser of the Year Desmond Murray and multi-award winning salon owner Michael Van Clarke, flocked to the Mermaid Theatre, London – along with 400 other hairdressers and salon owners – to learn why good is not enough anymore. Co-founder of The Fantastic Hairdresser Company,

Alan, says: “The feedback we’ve received from the audience has been amazing! After studying successful companies for nine months to prepare the content, it was great to actually get out there and share ideas with everyone. I’m over the moon that people came away feeling motivated and ready for change.”

GETTING MILLER’D

Charlie Miller’s highest achievers were recognised at a glitzy awards ceremony in the heart of Edinburgh’s old town. On the 10th anniversary of the awards, the salon’s art team presented techniques and avant garde work to inspire the crowd, before head stylist Natalie Cole took the crown of Outstanding Hairdresser of the Year. The salon’s Creative Director

Jason Miller says: “There’s so much genuine camaraderie: we’re honoured to have such a fantastic team of people working with us.”
