The gun is a detailed replica and is supplied with a suitably period user manual.
We know you have been waiting a very long time for this iconic rifl e,” says The Shooting Party chairman, Mike Hurney, “but the Lee-Enfi eld SMLE in CO2 Steel .177 BB format is very nearly ready to go!” The detailed and accurate replica is the same wright and dimensions as the original iconic weapon. “Over the last 12 months we have been working hard with the factory to produce key features,” explains Mike. These include leak and jam testing the rifl e extensively. We are delighted with the reliability show in the results from this.” The Lee-Enfi eld SMLE is an all wood and metal construction and gives 30_ full power shots from a single CO2 cannister – with a velocity between 500-550 fps. “A 15-shot magazine completes the gun – which accepts all original accessories including slings and bayonets. The gun is ideal for all re- enactors, collectors and enthusiasts.” The Lee-Enfi eld SMLE retails at £429.
28 | Tackle & Guns | June 2019 The Lee-Enfi eld was the British Army’s standard
rifl e from its offi cial adoption in 1895 until 1957. The SMLE Magazine Lee Enfi eld - or “SMELLIE” as it was affectionately known by troops in the trenches in WW1, was famous for being able to perform the ‘mad minute’- placing 20 to 30 rounds into a target in under 60 seconds! Lee-Enfi elds were adopted by Commonwealth Forces and are still found in use across the globe today by the Taliban and other ‘irregulars’. In all, around 17,000,000 Lee-Enfi elds are said to have been produced... For many, these rifl es remain ‘fi rst among equals’ in bolt-action design, strength, reliability, accuracy and safety.
