rganisers of the Northern Angling Show have announced attendance


figures for this year’s show. The Northern Angling Show, which took place early in April at Event City in Manchester, posted a record attendance of 14,000 visitors over its two-days. The show is now in its fifth year and covered 16,000 sqm. Event director Nick Maddix told


us: “We’ve seen a big turnaround in exhibitor attitude since the early days of the first show. “Most manufacturers and retailers


were sceptical of a show in the North and we struggled to get many brands and retailers on board. Fast forward five years and we’re having to control the level of retail in the show to maintain event quality and have a massive number of the industry’s major brands in attendance.”


Event City has a huge capacity at any one time, giving plenty of opportunity to grow further still. But where will the growth come from?


Nick has his targets and added: “I personally would like to see a few more of the large match brands in

he British Shooting Sports Council has announced that Jonathan Djanogly, as its Chairman.


Jonathan is the MP for Huntingdon and enjoys deer stalking. He succeeds Sir Peter Luff.

attendance at the show and will continue to push to get them involved. We have a great match following up here in the north and have a good chunk of the top players in attendance but there are a few more I haven’t managed to get yet! “The next big area we’re looking at is the predator scene. We have a huge number of pike anglers in the North West and they’ve proven they want to be catered for at the NAS so we’ll be having a big push on this for 2018 and beyond.

apanese bait giant Marukyu has taken on the services of Lincoln- based Fill The Gap Marketing Ltd to service the market.


The marketing specialist will be handling all social media, on the page advertising, packaging design and video production. It is also revamping the websites. Rachael Smith, marketing director for Fill The Gap, told T&G: “One of our first tasks will be contacting dealers with a survey to assess marketing perception.”

It’s all part of a learning curve, but it’s certainly getting a smoother and slicker event each year.” The show has a tenancy through to 2023. Dates for the next years Northern Angling Show are confirmed as 24th-25th February, 2018.

Lure and fly show promised

new show launching in Bristol later this year is bidding to bring the worlds of Fly Fishing and Lure Fishing together in one ‘unmissable weekend’. The European Sport Fishing Show, backed by Bauer’s Trout & Salmon magazine, Funky Flytying, Aardvark McLeod and Pure Fishing’s Hardy Fly Fishing, is scheduled to take place October 28th - 29th of this year. The event will take place at the University of Western England’s Exhibition Centre, Bristol.
