we are looking at this. We hope to keep pricing the same. We know that we have to be very careful!

T&G: When are you taking bookings for the 2018 show?

VINCE DAVIES: The new floor plan will be available in June but we are taking advance bookings now. If people want to give me a call or drop me a line now – we can get them on the provisional plan.

T&G: What’s the catchment area of the show?

VINCE DAVIES: The show has visitors from all over the UK and beyond. This year we had a lot of visitors from Holland and the feedback from them was that they loved the show and will be back next year – in even greater force. The main catchment for the show though is about a 50 mile radius. That’s where about 80% of our visitors come from.

T&G: Does this mean you’d consider a show elsewhere? The Midlands perhaps?

VINCE DAVIES: No comment!

T&G: And finally, Vince, we hear your long-term assistant, Colin Rumney, is retiring. Is this true?

VINCE DAVIES: This is correct, after 10 years of working with me

I’ve finally worn him out and he’s retiring! Seriously, I’d like to thank Colin for all his hard work over the years. He’s been hugely influential on the show and he will be missed.

his year’s Big One was one of the biggest shows we’ve seen for a while. The show was well organised, the stands were very professional and everyone seemed to be doing good business. We’ve seen this show grow over the years from what could have been described as a very well attended car boot sale through to what we see in 2017 – a slick, well-organised and genuinely important tackle show. If you’ve not been for a while, pay it a visit next year. You will be pleasantly surprised.

The audience was friendly, they all loved their fishing and were enthusiastic about the products, there’s not a lot more you can ask for!
