Looking forward to 2017with plenty of hope
There are a few topics I want to touch on in mymusings thismonth, so please bear withme with my scattergun
approach. First off, I have been genuinely
delighted by the number of people in the industry who contactedme about recent articles and editorials I have written about attracting the new generation of
anglers.Not only is it personal pleasure fromso many having resonated with the points Imade, but also professional glee because companies have informedme of the great work they are doing, or plan to do, as wemove forward as an industry.You will see examples littered throughout the news pages of this very issue – and if you have your own story that you would like to tell about working with youngsters or attracting new anglers, then please get in touch. If there is one thing that Tackle TradeWorld will always champion and publish, it is work of this very nature. Second onmy list is the subject everyone is probably bored
of speaking about, and that’s President-elect Donald Trump. Whatever your political persuasion and whatever you think about himpersonally, or his rival Hillary Clinton, there are a number of important points that the fishing tackle industry needs to pay attention to. The key one
appears to be environmental issues.While Trump has generally been received well by small, independent companies in the fishing trade, his views on the environment and environmental issues are pretty concerning. Climate change is not fiction, and anymovesMr Trump makes to halt work to combat that will only spell bad news for fishing globally because it will continue to damage
habitats.Thankfully there are some great people in the trade associations in the USA (both American Sportfishing Association and American Fly Fishing Trade Association) who will ensure that fishing and the environment’s
